I Want You To Know About...

Eden
Eve knew the stories of the Fall, of a time before she wandered into the colony of Eden, unable to recall anything but her name. She’s seen the aftermath of the technology that infused human DNA with cybernetic matter, able to grow new organs and limbs, how it evolved out of control. The machine took over and the soul vanished. A world quickly losing its humanity isn’t just a story to her though. At eighteen, this world is Eve’s reality.

In their Fallen world, love feels like a selfish luxury, but not understanding what it is makes it difficult to choose between West, who makes her feel alive but keeps too many secrets, and Avian, who has always been there for her, but is seven years her senior.

The technology wants to spread and it won’t stop until there is no new flesh to assimilate. With only two percent of the human population left, mankind is on the brink of extinction. While fighting to keep Eden alive, Eve will discover that being human is about what you will do for those you love, not what your insides may be made of. And even if it gets you killed, love is always what separates them from the Fallen.

Seventeen-year-old high school senior Shannon Card needs money. And lots of it. She's been admitted to Wellesley, but her dad just lost his job, and somehow she has to come up with a year of tuition herself. But Shannon's dream of making big bucks waitressing at the local casino, the Collosio, disappears faster than a gambler's lucky streak. Her boss is a tyrant, her coworker is nuts, and her chances of balancing a tray full of drinks while wearing high-heeled shoes are slim to none. Worse, time is running out, and Shannon hasn't made even half the money she'd hoped.

When Shannon receives a mysterious invitation to join Aces Up, a secret network of highly talented college poker players, at first she thinks No way. She has enough to worry about: keeping her job, winning the coveted math scholarship at school, and tutoring her secret crush, Max. But when Shannon musters up the nerve to kiss Max and he doesn't react at all, the allure of Aces Up and its sexy eighteen-year-old leader, Cole, is suddenly too powerful to ignore.

Soon Shannon's caught up in a web of lies and deceit that makes worrying about tuition money or a high school crush seem like kid stuff. Still, when the money's this good, is the fear of getting caught reason enough to fold?

This fun, sexy, recession-proof story is a bubbly summer read with surprising depth—great for fans of Sarah Mlynowski.

My $0.02
I am a huge fan of Lauren Barnholdt’s novels because they’re very contemporary, quirky, and witty to read.  The dialogue that flows out of the books leave you thinking, “Hey, that sounds like me!”
Shannon gets accepted to Wellesey but her dad loses his job so she pretty much has to come up with her tuition money herself. She fakes her age and gets a job as a waitress at her local casino, the Collosio. Eventually, she gets an invitation to join Aces Up—when she meets Cole…SIGH. LOL, he’s got that I’m good-lookin’-you-want-me vibe going on! As she continues to take part in Aces Up, her life becomes more and more complicated; twisting lies here and there until it becomes a HUGE problem, like illegal problems!
Aces Up was a short, quick read! I picked it up because I very much enjoyed Two-Way Street and One Night That Changes Everything! Aces Up wasn’t exactly what I was expecting—which could be a good thing because I thought she was going to end up with one guy but turns out she ended up with a totally different guy.
With the way the story was going, it only made sense that she ended up with him. Like I mentioned above, Barnholdt’s writing is very fun to read and I’ll continue picking up anything written by her! :)

Simply Orange Elephants

Haha, for some reason my thoughts all come to me when I'm showering. Maybe it's because I think about my day overall and weird, crazy thoughts jump into my mind whenever they get the chance. Who knows?! LOL :)
How 'bout them elephants? *____*

So, the one thought that had me pondering for a while is: authors, when you publish your first novel whether it be about vampires, werewolves, ninjas, faeries, angels, zombies, robots, Chuck Norris, draki, turtles, mutants, wizards, witches - you get my point, haha, what made you go in that direction? Is it because you are more attracted to that paranormal subject more so than others? ;) Keep in mind, this is about your first novel.

Now, I know that after your first novel is sold and published and out there in the world, you could go into other paranormal stories, but I am curious about the first choice in your novel.

So authors - what gives? :)

Good Choice Reading Giveaway of Vanish!

The awesome Damaris over at Good Choice Reading is giving away her copy of Vanish by Sophie Jordan. The sequel to Firelight! SQUEE! I want this book so bad! :)

Firelight (Firelight, #1)
A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.

Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.

Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

Vanish (Firelight, #2)
To save the life of the boy she loves, Jacinda did the unthinkable: She betrayed the most closely-guarded secret of her kind. Now she must return to the protection of her pride knowing she might never see Will again—and worse, that because his mind has been shaded, Will’s memories of that fateful night and why she had to flee are gone.

Back home, Jacinda is greeted with hostility and must work to prove her loyalty for both her sake and her family’s. Among the few who will even talk to her are Cassian, the pride’s heir apparent who has always wanted her, and her sister, Tamra, who has been forever changed by a twist of fate. Jacinda knows that she should forget Will and move on—that if he managed to remember and keep his promise to find her, it would only endanger them both. Yet she clings to the hope that someday they will be together again. When the chance arrives to follow her heart, will she risk everything for love?

In bestselling author Sophie Jordan’s dramatic follow-up to Firelight, forbidden love burns brighter than ever.

Now, if you want your chance at getting a hold of this precious ARC of Vanish, I suggest you jump on over to THIS POST to enter! Giveaway ends 5/21/11 @ 11:59 PM!

This week my Soundtrack Saturday features Always Attract by You Me At Six.

I don't really know why but I listened to this song practically the whole time that I read Seers of Light by Jennifer DeLucy. So now whenever I listen to it, it kind of brings me right back to Seers of Light.

Seers of Light (Light, #1)

Lillian Hunt has never truly lived. Always sensing more to the world than is easily perceived, she fears that her instincts are stubborn flights of fancy, or worse, mental instability. But some things—disappearing strangers, tangible dreams, and visits from malevolent creatures—cannot be ignored. Before it's too late, Lillian is ripped from the only existence she’s ever known and thrust into a reality that she always suspected, but could scarcely believe. She must learn the truth about who she is, the powerful beings that wish to destroy her, and the two men who would die to protect her.

Jennifer DeLucy has created a unique, enchanting tale of destiny and the ageless power of love in her debut novel, Seers of Light. DeLucy's novel charms readers with quirky characters, while sketching a haunting portrait of one woman's journey on the path of the supernaturally gifted. But be prepared. Once you've entered the world of Seers, you will never be the same.

Looking for Book Bloggers!

Ednah Walter's second installment to her Guardian Legacy series will release later this year in August. We are looking for ten bloggers to participate in a book blog tour for Betrayed.

Below are the first two books in the series and their summaries.

Awakened (The Guardian Legacy, #1)
Most teens turn sixteen and get the license to drive, but Lil Falcon gets the license to kill demons. Orphaned as a child and raised by an eccentric grandfather, Lil is concerned with surviving high school and is unaware that she's a Guardian-a being with super powers charged with killing demons and protecting humanity. When she meets Bran, a mysterious boy with amazing abilities, his psi energy unlocks her latent powers. But Bran has a secret that can ruin their growing relationship, and the truth she discovers may destroy everything she believes in unless she finds the right balance between love and sacrifice.

Lil has come to terms with her life as a Guardian/demon hunter and the wielder of the Nephilim most powerful weapon. But trouble looms in the Guardian enclave. Bran is  pulling away from her and her best human friend is in trouble, and it's all Lil's fault.

This is the book trailer for Betrayed!

The tour will take place sometime after August, maybe September but when I become aware of when, I'll be sure to let all participants know. Any giveaways associated with the blog tour will last until the end of the month (whichever month that shall be). The blog tour for Betrayed will last two weeks.

Book Blog Tour: Character Interview - Alex from Half-Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Photobucket

Today, in honor of Daimon's release (the prequel to Half-Blood), I have here with us Alexandria Andros! Stick around until the end because you'll get the chance to win an awesome swag pack!
______________________________________________________________

Hi Alex! Welcome to BOB! Thanks so much for taking time out of your oh-so busy schedule to chit-chat with me for a few minutes!

So first off, how are you today? :)
Alex looks around, yawning. "Tired, but alive. So I guess, I'm doing okay? You?
-I'm doing great this morning!

How has life differed for you since being at The Covenant? How different was it being away from The Covenant?
"Growing up. the Covenant was all I knew. I never thought I'd leave it, but yeah, I also never thought my mother would flip out and pull my happy butt off the Covenant either." She stands, stretches and sits back down. "Being back is different. The place looks the same to me. And there still is one damn set of staircases anywhere here. But it's different. I was pretty awesome before? Now. I don't think so."

Could you explain how it was with your first encounter with a daimon? Man, are those things creepy scary or what?!
Alex folds her arms. "You know, I never saw one until that day in Miami. And yeah, daimons are creepy. They're like creepy mc-creepsters. And I didn't even know they talked until then. Gods, you really don't want them to talk. They never shut up. But yeah, seeing one made me feel all hot and cold at once. And sick to my stomach. I guess I couldn't believe I was seeing what I was." She brushes her hair back as she stares down at her other hand. "I guess I didn't want to believe what I was seeing. Anyway, next question?"

To you, what's normal anymore? Being a half-blood, I would think that being at The Covenant is the norm, but is being around humans a whole different experience? A little different?
She tucks her hair back and lets out a little sigh. "Normal for me is being back here, around my kind. No offense, you being mortal and all, but I never fit in with you guys. I really did try, but I always ended up breaking someone's face by the end of the day." She shrugs. "Whatever."

Could you describe a day in the life of Alexandria Andros?
"Up at the butt crack of dawn, coming up with a dozen ways to maim Aiden, but not his face--he can keep his face. After training, I hang out with Caleb. Gods, I've missed Caleb. He just gets me and doesn't put up with my crap. Other than that, I'm not allowed to do anything else. My uncle and Aiden act like I'm going to burn down the Covenant when they're not looking. I'm pretty much on lock down."

How's the training at The Covenant?
"Aiden is trying to kill me." She pauses, sees my adoring expression and rolls her eyes. "Yeah, I know you've seen Aiden earlier. He's hot and he has this way of talking to you, but he's knocked me on my back a billion times and not in that fun way you're thinking. He's going to break my back, actually. And he told me I have spaghetti arms and that I needed to spend more time in a gym. What guy tells a girl that?"
-NOO?! Just slap him! I mean, how ruuuuude!

Aether, so how much of that is in your blood anyway? I mean, is there a way to calculate the amount that you have...since you're a half-blood and all?
Alex laughs. "I guess there would be a way to calculate it, but who would? The pure-bloods are full of aether, which allows them to control the elements to do all kinds of neat things. Like compulsions." She suddenly scowls. "Which they are not supposed to do, but whatever. We halfs don't have a lot of aether in us. It's watered down by the human blood. Oddly enough, the difference in aether amounts is what allows us to see through the dark elemental magic the daimons use to hide what they truly look like. An old Instructors once said that we halfs are the donkeys of the pure-blood world, or something like that. We exist on different wave lengths. Nice, huh? I'm compared to a jackass, literally."
-I was thinking something like...50%. You know, half and all that! ;)

And lastly, just out of curiousity, do you always carry something that's titanium with you? If so, what?
"Well, I wish I did beforehand. Lesson learned on that one. But half-bloods can't carry titanium until they're trained. We normally wouldn't be exposed to the risk until then anyways. And most pure-bloods are well protected by halfs so they don't carry, but yeah, once we're trained we get this nifty blades that stab and stuff. Much better than a garden spade."

Thank you so much Alex for being here and chatting with me for a bit! I know, you totally need to get back to training and all that good stuff! But don't be a stranger! Hope to see you stop by BOB again soon!
Alex pops out of her seat. "Well, you're pretty cool for a mortal! Oh, I'll make sure I'll tell Aiden you were drooling all over him, too. He gets all bent out of shape over those things. It'll be fun! Bye!"
-PLEASE! ;)
______________________________________________________________

Isn't Alex so kick-ass?! She's awesome, really! Alrighty so now for the giveaway! All you have to do is answer this question:
When can half-bloods carry titanium?

I Apologize!

OK. So I was in shower when I started to think about my blogging. I realize that I have some winners to announce (Descent of the Angels and The Long Weekend giveaway) and some info to inform all my awesome readers of.

Lately, I keep telling myself that I'll get to it, I'll get to it soon and before I know it, it's the next day and so on and so forth. I apologize for my unorganized self.
Life outside of blogging and the web is getting crazy and hectic. School is coming to an end and everything is stacking up and I can't take it anymore.
Authors who I have been in contact with, soon enough my review for your book will be up and when it is, I will surely let you know.

I just want to let everyone know that I am still alive and breathing, barely. My blog has been out of action for a bit; I haven't been blogging as much, there hasn't been a lot of posts going up. I'm just feeling like a bad blogger for the moment.

And I guess this is where I promise that everything will be back up and running real soon...but words are just words.

I can say that myself, my whole self, mind and body will be functioning better after this week. Or so I hope.

I really don't know what the purpose of this post is supposed to be about. Maybe me ranting. I guess the stress is taking its toll.

I just want to let all the frequent readers of my blog know that I am sorry for being so behind. I will have winners posted sometime next week.

Thank you for sticking by me!

xoxo, M
