Exiled (Connected, #1)

Exiled
by RaShelle Workman
Published: November 11th 2011 by Polished Pen Press
Synopsis taken from Goodreads
Stubborn, sixteen-year-old Princess Venus of Kelari wants one thing, to become a kelvieri, that is, until someone exiles her to Earth, kills her irrihunter and takes her family.

Now she wants revenge.

First she’s got to get home. But before she can return to Kelari, the Gods have commanded her to help an arrogant boy named Michael find his soul mate. Only she doesn't know the first thing about love.

Rather quickly, her inexperience with human emotion is obscured by other matters—alien-controlled psychotic teens that are out to kill her, and a government group that is set on capturing and dissecting her.

Worst of all, Venus will suffer a painful death-by-poisoning, thanks to Earth’s atmosphere, if she remains on the planet longer than one week. Still, Venus is a Princess and she's got a plan. Surely, with her help, Michael will fall in love with a human.

But time is running out and Michael is falling for the wrong girl—her.
Exactly three weeks ago, I ran across the beautiful cover of this book over at .Ya-Aholic. and immediately, I ran over to Goodreads to look up who it was by and what it's all about. On the cover, it's kind of hard to tell who the author is so I just typed in Exiled and I scrolled down the page and there it was. After reading the description of the book, I was hooked. It sounds super interesting! And the cover, without a doubt, drew me in. It's gorgeous, right? :)

What are you impatiently waiting for this Wingsday? ;)
That was a Whitney reference, if you didn't know. Love that show!

The YA Heroine Tournament

Omg people, it's back but this time we're doing it big for the ladies of YA literature! :) During the summer, the lovely ladies from the YA Sisterhood hosted their first tournament where we represented the guys of YA lit. This time around, I am advocating the awesome Alexandria -Alex- Andros from Jennifer L. Armentrout's Half-Blood. I am so excited to be her advocate! People better watch out! ;) If you have read Half-Blood, you would know why Alex is so kick-butt! During the nominations, she garnered 175 votes which put her at seed 23...out of 32. So, I'm going to need your help in helping her make it super far into the tournament!

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1)Spread the word through EVERY social network that you're on. Facebook, email (but only to people that would really vote...cause that would be weird), Twitter, Tumblr, Wordpress & Blogger, etc. Heck, make flyers and business cards to get the info out there! If you're on twitter, use the hashtag: #HALFBLOODLEGION and #ALEXCOVENANT to follow along with the team there. Also, here are two examples of tweets that you can use to help spread the word:

Vote for Alex on Monday, December 12th people! Mark yo calendars! Seriously...or else I'll unleash daimons on you! ;) #AlexCovenant

Alex's first match is on Monday, December 12th against Nora from Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush, Hush Saga. All the info can be found on the YA Sisterhood's blog (link can be found above). During the YA Crush Tourney, voting took 40 hours then it was shortened to 24 hours because the voting system kept crashing. This time to keep that from happening, the voting span will be 24 hours. Spread the word and take your stand! Mark your calendars...or else daimons will be after you! ;)

The Maine Presents Pioneer :)

Oh my gosh! I love these guys to death. They're amazing, awesome, down-to-earth, chill, and...so many other positive adjectives, anything that you could come up with. I found out about these guys during the summer of '10 and I've been a loyal, honest fan ever since. I was immediately hooked because of John Ohh's voice. Seriously. Then I spent a lot of time looking them up online, trying to find out more about them. In doing so, I found out that they were on their very first headlining tour during July of 2010. I was so mad that I found out about them a little late because I wanted so badly to go see them. And of course, their first stop was San Francisco. I was even more mad. That whole summer I couldn't stop listening to them! When October rolled around, I found out that they were going to tour with Never Shout Never in their Harmony Tour and so I got my tickets, asap! That was my first time ever seeing them. It was awesome although I felt out of my element a bit because 3/4 of the fans were there for NSN. Anyway, it was still an awesome experience! Then about eight months later (I totally counted on my fingers just now), I found out that they were going to tour again. This time with the awesome band, Augustana. I was stoked because it was going to be during the summertime and you know why that's awesome...because I don't have to worry about missing school, lol! Within those eight months, I converted my oldest sister and her husband to a MAINEiac too, haha, so they were my ride to SF to see The Maine and Augustana together. THAT concert blew my mind; it was totally out of this world.

The audience, the bands, everything was charged with so much energy, it was insane. A good insane, of course. Augustana is mind-blowing live. Dan Layus has such a beautiful voice! I was completely and utterly starstruck. Aaah, I almost forgot to mention, this time around, I got to meet 3/5 of The Maine. *gasp* I know! For this concert, we spent the night in SF because the night before the concert, we attended this book signing with Maggie Stiefvater, Libba Bray, and Meg Cabot. That morning we all woke up around 9-10 and shortly after I got up, I received a tweet from Pat saying that they were going to be at the Mancave Memorabilia at noon. I did a double take at the time and realized we had two hours to get ready. Ha, you should have seen us! We got ready in record time and we showed up to the Mancave Memorabilia thirty minutes before noon. I was so anxious and excited and nervous all at once to meet them.

Never in a million years did I think I was going to get to meet my most favorite band on earth. I thought it was going to be the whole band but only John Ohh, Jared, and Garrett showed up. I was bummed that Kenny and Pat weren't there but all that mattered to me was that John was there. Haha, clearly I'm a John Ohh chick. ;) They came out and did a little Q&A with the fans there and it was super intimate. There were probably only like thirty fans present which was nice. OMG, my fangirl moment coming up. During the Q&A, John was talking and then he was looking out at the crowd and we (me and him) were only like five feet apart and then we locked eyes for a good thirty seconds and *fans self* I'm pretty sure my heart died and it came back after our eye contact was broken. It was...definitely the best moment of my life. After the Q&A, the three of them did a little meet and greet with all the fans and oh boy, was I nervous or what?! I stood in line by myself because out of the four of us there, I was the craziest and the most MAINE addicted. My sister went and got all of my stuff out of the car for them to sign and when it was my turn to go up, I didn't know what to say at all. Looking back, I could have said a whole bunch of stuff but in the moment, I was just overwhelmed that I was even in their prescence. It happens all the time. I just stood their and commented on their height because I was a freakin' midget standing next to them. I mean, look at the picture: ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓ ↓

Of course, I got a solo shot with John, which if you follow me on twittah, it's been my profile picture ever since then.

OMG, you don't know how ecstatic I was that he wrapped his arms around me. I was dying! Look at my smile - I don't think I've ever been any happier in life! Afterwards, we left the Mancave and we went wandering around SF until the concert started. Like all concerts, they go by waaaaaay too fast. I was on a high for the rest of....the week that followed. Then, two nights ago, I went and saw them again on their Pioneer tour. This tour was my favorite but not my favorite either. We didn't leave to SF until 4 in the afternoon; we arrived in SF at 5:15 and we headed straight to The Bottom of the Hill. The line was long already, some people were there since 2 in the afternoon. It was freezing and really dark already because of the time change and stuff. Anyway, by 6:40-7:00 we made our way in and man, that venue was so tiny. We went and stood to the far right of the stage, close to where Jared was. They came out and played all the songs from Pioneer and it was really quiet at first because we didn't know 7 out of the 9 songs, haha! Then they had a little intermission where they played this video that showed how far The Maine has come. :) When they came back out they played a bunch of their older songs that we knew and the energy was crazy! And they were just so chill and relaxed. It was very low-key and...nice. After the concert ended, my sisters, my brother-in-law, and I headed to the bathroom and little did we know, in doing that, we ended up at the front of the line to meet the guys, which rocked. Before the concert, I made this super sparkly t-shirt that said The Maine, on the front, in glitter, and on the back it said, Pioneer, their M logo, and 11-20-11, all in glitter. Then I went back with puff paint and wrote their lyrics all over the shirt. Anyway, when I went up to meet them, they were all amused by my shirt, haha! John signed my poster and said, "You're sparkling!" <3

I haven't taken a picture of the shirt yet but when I do, I'll come back and add it to this post. If you guys have ever been to one of their concerts, before John starts singing, he always gives us a little background about the song and now looking back on the whole night, I got a sad vibe from the guys. I felt that they were extremely thankful for all the fans and Colby (the co-producer of Pioneer) but...there was an underlying sad feeling to everything. My brother-in-law, my sister, and I talked and talked and talked about it and we felt like The Maine has been through so much and their fan base is huge but not as huge as other bands like Boys Like Girls, or 3Oh!3, or you know, those big time bands and that's sort of why they changed their sound this time around. John also mentioned that their previous record label, Warner Bros didn't sign them for Pioneer, hence Colby, and I just felt so sad for the guys. I wanted to give all of them a ginourmous hug. I want to buy a hundred copies of Pioneer to support them. I hope that whatever hardships they come across that they don't ever give up because I will be dead without them. No joke. I was talking to my sister about it and I got all choked up already. Seriously, they can't stop doing what they're doing. I'll die. I will follow The Maine wherever they go, to the end of the world.

If you want to check out my videos from the tour, you can find all the ones we recorded here: my TUMBLR. <3 But I'll post my two most favorite here.

The Maine - Rock 'n Roll

The Maine - Misery

I didn't record this next video. I knew of the song but I didn't know the lyrics and stuff but now, after that night, I'm so addicted.

Lost in Thought (1)

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!

LOL, how 'bout that gif right there? Gawh, I love those moving pictures; they're so entertaining! Anyway, on Tuesday when I was scheduling my W.O.W post, I decided to make a post about this question that was circulating through twittah this past weekend. Out of curiosity, I had asked twittah this question and you know, because twittah is instantaneous, I got multiple responses back and...it was amusing. I wasn't trying to get anything out of it, like after getting the responses I totally forgot why I had asked in the first place but you know...the things curiosity does to you. And I don't know, sometimes the weirdest questions come to mind and I don't even think of the possible answers - I just start asking and then sometimes afterwards, I feel stoopid but by then, it's like oh well. Like I said, sometimes these questions come to me out of nowhere so...when I came to type up this post, I didn't know what to title it. I just had one word in mind: thoughts. So...being the nerd or dork that I am, I went to http://dictionary.reference.com/ and I typed in thoughts and then I went to the thesaurus and looked for synonyms and lost in thought popped up, so the next time I have a burning question just dying to be asked, it will go in a Lost in Thought post. Haha, I...don't know why I shared that little...whatever with you guys, but now you know.

As most of you probably know, I finished The Hunger Games about a week ago and this is partially where the question sprouted from. Have any of you heard of Matched by Ally Condie? Well, I...hate saying or pointing out when books were DNFs for me because I eventually get back to them. But that was all before I started blogging, now I have tons and tons of books that fall into the DNF category and it sucks because I want to get back to them, I really do, but time doesn't allow it and the days move on and it's like, I'm on an assembly line, moving forward and looking back at all the books I did not finish. Oh gawh, that feeling sucks. Oh shoot, I'm starting to digress. Anyway, both of those books are dystopian novels and you know how those are. Everyone is being controlled, regulated, watched, under a lot of scrutiny, etc. In Matched, I don't quite remember, but there's something about the 100 songs, poems, and books...or something and it got me thinking *Hint: here comes the question*:

If you were living in a world like that of The Hunger Games or Matched, which five books would you choose to keep with you forever? :)

Like, if you were being controlled by the government, but they let you keep five books/series to read over and over again, which would it be?

Also, keep in mind that the government burned every other book in the world but your five choices.

Oh heck no! I can't believe I was even able to Google a picture like this. I'd cry forever if my books were ever in a situation like this. NAH-UH, no way Jose.

I would totally list my five choices now...but I don't want to influence any of you, you know. LOL and if you follow me on twittah, you would already know my choices but I'll post my choices later when I get home from school.

SooOooOoooOoOOOoo people, which five would it beeeeeee? :) Your responses are going to be lots of fun to read.

Waiting on Wednesday (9): Destined

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

Destined
by Jessie Harrell
Expected publication: November 17th 2011 by Mae Day Publishing
Synopsis taken from Goodreads

When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.

As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.

Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and HeroesGreek mythology is makin' it big this year, huh? I don't know about you but I'm stoked for this book. During my freshmen year of high school, I was in a pre-AP English class where we had to read → that book and boy, am I glad I read it! It goes into detail about all the Greek gods and goddesses and the Norse gods and the Titans and all that good stuff! I'm going to be stockin' up on all the Greek mythology books this year into next year, that's for sure!

So, what do you think of Destined? Are you a fan of Greek mythology? Who's your most favorite Greek god and goddess? For me, my most favorite Greek gods are Perseus and Theseus. ;) And as for goddess...I'm not too sure. When I read that book, none of them really stood out to me like Perseus and Theseus. LOL

Anyway, what are you anxiously waiting on this Wednesday?

Elise is a normal seventeen-year-old girl until the day she wakes up in a desert park, with no idea who she is.

After that episode, her life takes a bizarre turn. She’s experiencing unexpected flashes of insight into people’s lives—people she’s never met before. Strangers frighten her with warnings about the approaching Shadows. And although Elise has never had a boyfriend, she suddenly finds herself torn between two handsome but very different young men: Abe, the charming bad boy whose affect on her both seduces and frightens her, and the mysterious Harlin, who’s new to town but with whom Elise feels an urgent, elemental connection—almost as if they are soul mates.

Now Elise begins to question everything about her life. Why do these guys both want her so desperately? What are the Shadows? Why does the name Charlotte inspire a terrifying familiarity? And who is Elise, really?

And because I LOVE how much covers look beside one another, here's the first book in the series:

A Need So Beautiful (A Need So Beautiful, #1)Title: A Need So Beautiful
Author: Suzanne Young
Published: June 21st, 2011 (Balzer + Bray)
Pages: 267

We all want to be remembered. Charlotte's destiny is to be Forgotten...

Charlotte’s best friend thinks Charlotte might be psychic. Her boyfriend thinks she’s cheating on him. But Charlotte knows what’s really wrong: She is one of the Forgotten, a kind of angel on earth, who feels the Need—a powerful, uncontrollable draw to help someone, usually a stranger.

But Charlotte never wanted this responsibility. What she wants is to help her best friend, whose life is spiraling out of control. She wants to lie in her boyfriend's arms forever. But as the Need grows stronger, it begins to take a dangerous toll on Charlotte. And who she was, is, and will become--her mark on this earth, her very existence--is in jeopardy of disappearing completely.

Charlotte will be forced to choose: Should she embrace her fate as a Forgotten, a fate that promises to rip her from the lives of those she loves forever? Or is she willing to fight against her destiny--no matter how dark the consequences.

Sooooo?! What do you guys think? *waits for you to gather your thoughts* WELL, I think it's...one of my most favorite cover. I know, there are tons of gorgeous covers out there but I really like this one. The blue tone, the angle of the girl's face, the way how the title's centered on the book - I just love it. I haven't read this series yet either...haha, but I do have the first book. :)

The machine took over and the soul vanished. A world quickly losing its humanity isn't just a story to her though. At eighteen, this world is Eve's reality.

In their Fallen world, love feels like a selfish luxury, but not understanding what it is makes it difficult to choose between West, who makes her feel alive but keeps too many secrets, and Avian, who has always been there for her, but is seven years her senior.

The technology wants to spread and it won't stop until there is no new flesh to assimilate. With only two percent of the human population left, mankind is on the brink of extinction. (This book is not published in the US...yet.)
Synopsis taken from Goodreads
Blake Duchamp...
He's all that Winter Adams can think of. Ever since their fateful meeting at Pilgrim's Lament. Ever since he looked at her with those emerald eyes. Ever since he saved her life.
But Blake isn't all that he seems. There is a strangeness about him, something dark and otherworldly. Something dangerous. In his attic is a secret he would  kill to defend, but Winter seems to have a special ability to make him forget his duty. And he is her only protection against the gathering darkness.
The only problem is, to protect Winter, Blake must risk exposing her to an even greater danger.
Himself.
Like I mentioned above, this book is not yet published in the US but I totally wished it was. I wanna read it uber bad. It sounds just like my kind of book. Spooky, eerie, and lots of creepiness! And the cover is gorge! :) Well, Winter's Shadow is what I'm waiting on this Wednesday and it seems like I might be waiting a long while, seeing that it's not even available here in the states. Haha!

What are you impatiently waiting for this Wednesday?

My Teaser
"I believe you. It doesn't matter. Your stylist turned out to be prophetic in his wardrobe choice. Katniss  Everdeen, the girl who was on fire, you have provided a spark that, left unattended, may grow to an inferno that destroys Panem," he says.
Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)- Page 23, Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

I think this teaser is completely spoilery so...if you haven't read The Hunger Games, you might not want to read this one, lol! Earlier today when I was at my sister's orthodontist appointment, in the waiting room, I was reading Catching Fire and when I came across this quote, I just had to share it. The line: Katniss Everdeen, the girl who was on fire. I just love that line!

I know, this TT is completely and totally late...but better late than never, right? LOL! If you have a TT, link it in the comments and I'll be sure to check it out!

Author: Suzanne Collins

Release Date: December 14th, 2009
Pages: Hardcover - 374 | Paperback - 374

In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that will weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

My $0.02

I don’t even know what to say right now. The Hunger Games was definitely…something. I can’t say that I loooooooved it but I certainly did enjoy it. It was something like I’ve never read before. You know that feeling you get after you finish a book? That feeling that just consumes your entire being and you don’t know how to think or function for at least a day? Yeah, that didn’t happen for me with The Hunger Games. I’m not saying that it wasn’t a brilliant book…it just didn’t stun me and leave me breathless. For me, it was lacking one of the things that every book needs to have for me to continue through with it and it was a love story. I know, I know this is only the first book but I’m going on blind faith here and I am continuing on with the story because of what everyone has said about it.

Like I said, I did enjoy it. I absolutely loved Katniss, the girl on fire. She radiated girl power throughout the whole book. A lot of the time, I’m you know, being the love sucker that I am, rooting for this guy or that guy but this has got to be the first book where I’m Team [INSERT LEADING FEMALE’S NAME HERE], lol, in this case, Team Katniss. From the beginning to the end of the book, she’s on her own – fending for herself, killing for herself, looking out for herself, and she was i n d e p e n d e n t. She was not relying on anyone to get her through the day and because of that, she was a total BAMF. She’s rebellious and she totally does not agree with THE Capitol but in order to survive, she just goes with it. I don’t know…I’m a weakling. If that was me, I’d drop dead, lol! Katniss Everdeen is the girl that does not need a man to save her when she’s in distress. ;) Girl power all the way, I tell ya!

The Hunger Games – the actual games, was without a doubt, entertaining to read. I mean, it was totally scary most of the time but it kept me on my toes, always wondering when Katniss was going to have her first kill or when she was going to run into Peeta or…and it goes on. The arena where the games were set was totally messing with my head and after reading it, I’ve come to conclude that for all I know, it was all just an illusion. ;) I mean, it seems like they’re set so far into the future that an illusion of everything could have been a real possibility. I’m probably going crazy here, haha! This book definitely makes you think and question a lot of things…well; it did for me at least. It was so epic and full of adventure; Collins did an excellent job at storytelling. The imagination of this story goes beyond me! There were lots of parts where there was no dialogue and I guess that would have to be my only other complaint. I like dialogue, it keeps the story going and because of the circumstances of the plot, there was not a lot of that and so it left me bored with a lot of the scenes.

Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne. Hmm. I’m not sure what I think of them so far. They’ve both got somethin’ appealing about them but I’m not sure if I’m hooked yet. Gale is like that best guy friend that’s got all the girls after him, but between the two of you, you guys are just friends. ACTUALLY, that’s exactly what Gale is, lol! Peeta Mellark, hmmm. After I was about 2-3 chapters into the book, I asked twitter whether or not they were Team Gale or Peeta and majority of the people were on Peeta’s side…but to me, I was not into him as much as I was into Gale. HA! Peeta seemed…*don’t pull out your pitchforks on me* weak and incompetent and incapable. *cringes* I know, it’s only the first book but I’m just sayin’ that’s how he came across to me. I don’t know, then again, I’m probably being hostile towards both of them because I don’t want to get overly involved with the possibility of a love triangle or whatever…because according to lots of people, it doesn’t bid well for…well, I don’t know. But that’s what I have to say about those two.

Overall, The Hunger Games was something of a read for me. I’m still trying to fit the puzzle of my feelings together and see exactly where I stand. Like, I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it. I just liked it. Certainly, the storyline and the plot of the story is terrific, awesome, one-of-a-kind, but something about it…didn’t stick out to me. And it’s bumming me out that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But then again something about the little things that happened in the book has gripped me so hard...that I can't let those feelings go either. Argh, I'm so conflicted. For sure, I'll continue on with the series and who knows, maybe my scattered feelings and thoughts will shift into place but for now...I just...don't know. Remember how I said that I couldn't get into dystopian novels? Well, maybe they just aren't for me.

A Touch Morbid by Leah Clifford's Description

Have you read A Touch Mortal? Nay? Omg, you must. ASAP. :) It's such a unique novel; one that will linger with you long after you've finished it. And if you need more convincing, check out my review here. Today Leah revealed the description and flap copy for A Touch Morbid and it totally gets me excited! If you have read A Touch Mortal but you have not gotten the chance to read the description from the HarperCollins catalog, here it is:

Eden won the battle-she saved her true love from the darkest evil. But the war has only just begun. With secrets swirling around her, powerful allies unraveling, and life-and death-as she knows it eroding, Eden and those she loves tread dangerous ground. Can she trust anyone? Will her unearthly powers be her salvation or her downfall? A sweeping, dark, and sexy paranormal romance that will haunt readers with an inventive mythology and a cinematic New York City filled with shadows and longing.

Exciting right?! I love those two last sentences; they definitely hook me! What gets me twice as excited is that my girl, Kristen, gets a point of view in Morbid! AAAHHH! Totally stoked for it; I LOVE her character! :) The flap covers are a bit spoilery so you can head on over to Leah's blog to read what A Touch Morbid is all about, if you have read A Touch Mortal.

So for those of you who have read A Touch Mortal, what do you think of the description on the inside flaps?! And for those of you who have not read A Touch Mortal, get on it! Then come back and we'll talk! Also, if you have not added A Touch Morbid on Goodreads, you can do so here: Click to add A Touch Mortal to your "to-be-read" pile :)
