The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
My $0.02

First off, let me just say that Jennifer L. Armentrout has quickly wedged herself up into being one of my most favorite authors of the year!  She has written an exhilarating debut with everything that I could ask for—a kick-ass heroine with a smart tongue, fast-paced action, steaming love-making scenes and the rise of a possible love triangle! Who doesn’t love those?
There were just so many things that I enjoyed about Half-Blood.  For example, I loved Alex’s sharp and witty remarks!  She is strong-willed, determined, and certainly stubborn at times—but who couldn’t relate?  She’s so strong that hardly do we ever get a glimpse of what’s under her skin.  But beneath it all, she’s hurting and in a lot of pain and as JLA depicts those emotions—it’s enough to make one cry for Alex and everything she has gone through.  When Alex was 14 years old, her mother made the both of them leave the protection and security that came with The Covenant and they moved to live in cities throughout the world.  From the get-go, I was thrown into all the action, biting my nails, being nervous for Alex’s survival.  From the turn of events, she finds herself back at The Covenant where she has to prove herself to be able to continue staying at The Covenant.  Everything that happened after that was paced just right.  JLA establishes this situation where Alex and Aiden are together, basically all the time and because of that, I could not thank her enough!  That is one of the main reasons why I highly praise Half-Blood!
I also loved all the character interactions—they were very believable and I felt like they were my friends!  Like I mentioned before, JLA’s dialogue flows right off the pages and it’s every day stuff that I would say, well not exactly but the tone and choice of words—yeah, very me.  Alex’s friendship with Caleb is very brother and sister like; it was so easy for them to talk to one another and just be.  He was like a big brother, somewhat, to Alex and I loved it!
Now, onto Aiden—he is in a league of his own!  When I close my eyes and picture him, I see someone dressed all in black (Thanks JLA! *__*), of course, and I see him with both of his arms folded behind his back with a very hard and guarded look on his face—expressing no emotion.  But you can just tell that deep within, he has a tornado of emotions swirling within his core.  I love the fact that he has such a guarded attitude and try as hard as he may, Alex gets him.  That is exactly what I love about JLA’s leading male: he is almost like the brooding type, yet he has a very caring heart and he’s vulnerable once you break that shield.  That’s what makes him hot and totally swoon-worthy to me!
And let’s talk a little bit about Seth. Seth? Seth who? Yeah, the summary of the book leaves that one out, doesn’t it?  Even though it doesn’t seem like it, he actually plays a very important role in Half-Blood.  And don’t take the word very so lightly.  I didn’t get to see much of him but I will most definitely keep an eye out for him when Pure rolls around!  Hence, the possible love triangle, just saying.
Jennifer L. Armentrout creates a very original story line to Greek mythology so this is absolutely one series that you do not want to miss!  From all the daimon killings to all the heart-pounding OMGs, this is one debut that will rock you off your toes!  Make sure you strap in extra hard because this is one heck of a ride!
