Rise Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Rise Blog Tour hosted by WovenMyst. For today's stop, I've got Anna Carey here with an awesome guest post on some things she learned from writing The Eve Trilogy.

Also, I've got a giveaway to share with you that I hope you all enter! And now, I hand over it over to Ms. Carey!

About the book:

Rise (Eve, #3)Title: Rise (Eve, #3)
Author: Anna Carey
Publisher: HarperCollins
Release date: April 2, 2013

How far will you go when you have nothing left to lose?

When she lost her soul mate, Caleb, Eve felt like her world had ended. Trapped in the palace, forced to play the part of the happy, patriotic princess of The New America—and the blushing bride of her father's top adviser—Eve's whole life is a lie. The only thing that keeps her going is Caleb's memory, and the revolution he started.

Now, Eve is taking over where Caleb left off. With the help of Moss, an undercover subversive in the King's court, she plots to take down The New America, beginning with the capital, the City of Sand. Will Eve be able to bring about a new, free world when she's called upon to perform the ultimate act of rebellion—killing her father?

In Rise, Eve must choose who to leave behind, who to save, and who to fight as Anna Carey's epic tale of romance and sacrifice in the chilling dystopia of The New America comes to a stunning conclusion.

Guest post: Three Things I Learned from Writing The Eve Trilogy

1.) A few months ago, when I got the Rise arcs in the mail, I thumbed through one, curious to read a few pages. The writing felt so foreign to me. I wasn’t quite sure who wrote it. It was Eve’s voice, fully and completely. There were phrases in there I’d never use, thoughts I’d never think. By the time I began the third book it felt more like I was channeling a character than creating one. Because there’s so much time and space to develop characters and scenes, my writing grew so much in the process of these three books. I’ve never been so immersed in another world.

2.) There’s a twist in Rise that wasn’t in my original plans for the series. Looking back, there’s foreshadowing early on that it will happen, and it felt like the most organic thing to write in. Though I’m known for outlining books thoroughly before I start, there are some things that can’t be foreseen, and there’s a lot of joy when a book can surprise its author. Sometimes things aren’t as you imagined them to be—they’re better.

3.) Rise doesn’t just represent the end of the series, it represents nearly three years of my life. Just as there are fictional people and places that exist now because of the books, there are friendships and experiences I’ve had that wouldn’t have been possible without publication. I couldn’t have known that when I sold the series. As much as I’ve given to these books, I’ve gotten so much more back.
