Welcome to my stop on the Masquerade Blog Tour hosted by Forever Romance. I'm so happy to have a spot on this tour because Nyrae Dawn's Games series is one of my top favorites. Not only that but I've been a huge die-hard fan of Nyrae Dawn ever since I first read What A Boy Wants. I love everything she's ever written and she's an author of mine where I have to read everything she puts out, no joke. So, having her here today is definitely a huge honor!
For today's stop, I've got an awesome excerpt from Masquerade, a fun (like really fun ;p) interview with Nyrae Dawn, and a giveaway to share with all of you, so stick around and don't miss a second of any of it! ;p
About the book:
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Release date: January 7, 2014
A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.
Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he's ever seen. She's wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.
Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker's body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.
Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .
Excerpt from Masquerade:
Welcome back to Books Over Boys, Nyrae! It’s always a pleasure to have you here! I’m even more thrilled because today, we’re talking about the last and final book in the Games trilogy! Okay, that sounded odd, like I’m so happy it’s the last book. What I meant was… it’s the Games trilogy—a huge favorite of mine, so I’m happy to be talking about it with you! To start off, what are you most excited about for Masquerade’s release? What is it about Bee and Maddox’s story that you are most excited for people to discover?
Thanks, Momo! It’s great to be here. I can’t wait for people to read about Bee. I love Maddox. LOVE him. My critique partner, Wendy Higgins says he’s the sexiest of the series and I agree but there is something about Bee that I can’t wait for people to read about. She’s so strong. Yes, she has insecurities and she’s confused by the world but she’s also honest, smart, outspoken and is who she is. I respect her so much.
Q. Bee and Maddox, to me, seemed different from Colt and Cheyenne and Adrian and Laney. They were both… hardened with a rough exterior, if that’s the right description. What was the trickiest part of developing their characters? What’s your favorite thing about each of them?
Yes, I agree. That had me a little nervous because they are different but then I liked that about them too. It was a hard line to straddle though—to stay true to who they are but also in a way that readers can hopefully still relate to them and still love them. My favorite thing about Maddox is his heart. He’s the most closed off and distant of the boys in this series but he has a huge heart too. And Bee, it’s her confidence and strength.
Q. I loved that in Masquerade, we got to see more of Colt and Cheyenne and Adrian and Laney. It was awesome to see them through Bee’s eyes, the different perspective. If your main characters, all six of them, were still in high school, which yearbook superlatives would they have won? (Ex: Most likely to Succeed, Friendliest, Most likely to be a Reality TV Star, etc.)
Laney would have gotten friendliest. Colt probably most likely to end up in jail. LOL. Though we know he’s a good guy! Adrian would have gotten biggest “player” but little do they know he is the deepest and most emotional. Cheyenne actually would have been most popular. Maddox probably would have gotten quietest and Bee…hmmm… I think she would have been most unique! That was a fun question!
Q. It’s guy’s night out. What are Colt, Adrian, and Maddox up to? What’s something that they would do?
OMG. That’s a tough one. They’re so different in some ways. I think these are the kind of boys who would spend guys night out working on a car with some beer or something. LOL. They’re such typical, down to earth guys. They don’t do flares and they’re not really the “go out” kind of guys. They’re not used to having much so they don’t need much, ya know?
Q. If you could bring Cheyenne, Laney, and Bee to life for a day, what would you four do together? Tell me why, for some reason, I could see you guys all going to a tattoo shop and just… spending the whole day there? ;p
You stole the answer out of my mouth! We would totally go get tattoos!
Q. Masquerade wraps up the Games trilogy. What can we expect next from you? I know Rush and Searching for Beautiful are releasing this year but are there any current works in progress that you can shed a little light on?
Unfortunately I don’t have any answers beyond Rush and Searching for Beautiful. I loved Trevor and Tyler but there are some hurdles to overcome to see if I am able to tell their story. There’s also a secondary character in Rush that I’m in love with. Also, I’m kicking around some ideas for a YA, strictly boy POV probably. Getting back to my roots a little bit ☺
[BOB: Wait, did you say YA and strictly boy POV? Aaahhh, can you make this happen, stat?! You know I fell in love with you because of your awesome boy POVs in What A Boy Wants and What A Boy Needs and... I need more! Omg, I'm excited!]
Q. ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. *it happens* Which of your characters dies first? Who would you want by your side fighting zombies? Who goes off searching for a cure? Who completely loses it? Who is the brain behind keeping your group alive?
My people are so tough and work together so well that none of them die. LOL. Honestly Maddox, Colt and Adrian would all be the fighters. They’ve all done that so much in their lives, and the books! LOL. Bee is levelheaded and she would be the brain to keep the group alive. Chey and Laney would be the ones who would want to find the cure.
Thanks so much for being here today, Nyrae! It’s been a blast! And huge congrats on Masquerade’s release!
Thank you, Momo! Loved being here!
