Rome Blog Tour: Character Interview + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the Rome Blog Tour hosted by Literati Author Services, Inc. I'm so excited and stoked to be on this tour because Jay Crownover's Marked Men series is absolutely, without a doubt, one of my most favorite series of all time! I am so passionate and enthusiastic about these men and they're just... amazing and so the bomb dot com, org, net, edu, gov. ;p

For today's post, I've got a special interview with the one and only, Cora Lewis! Seriously, it's so cool and a whole lot of fun, not to mention, quite informative! Check it out and don't forget to enter the tour wide giveaway where the prizes are simply... supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Without further ado, let's get to the epic!

About the book:

Title: Rome (Marked Men, #3)
Author: Jay Crownover
Publisher: William Morrow Paperbacks
Release date: January 7, 2014

Sometimes the wrong choice can be just right . . .

Fun and fearless, Cora Lewis knows how to keep her tattooed "bad boy" friends at the Marked in line. But beneath all that flash and sass is a broken heart. Cora won't let herself get burned again. She's waiting to fall in love with the perfect man—a baggage-free, drama-free guy ready for commitment. Then she meets Rome Archer.

Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He's stubborn, rigid, and bossy. And he's returned from his final tour of duty more than a little broken. Rome's used to filling many roles: big brother, doting son, supersoldier—but none of those fit anymore. Now he's just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the dark demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer through it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes a blinding flash of color in a sea of gray.Perfect may not be in the cards, but perfectly imperfect could just last forever . . .

Character interview with Cora Lewis:

Normally given a chance to hang out with any of the crew from the Marked Men series I would of course pick one of the guys. Nothing wrong with a little man-candy and I am only human, but this time around I picked Cora-and not just because we have similar hair, an affinity for tattoos or the same tell-it-how-it-is attitude. I picked her because more so than Shaw or Ayden, falling in love with one of these beautiful, complicated men fundamentally changed her life and I wanted to know how she was doing with all those major changes.

There’s something to be said for giving a character a bar inside of my make believe world. That means there is always a place for people to meet, always a place to hang out and have casual, laid back interactions. Plus this particular bar is like home to me. I grew up in a place like this, learned all my major life lessons behind a scarred bar top just like this one, paid for college slinging drinks to the exact same mix of clientele and up until recently spent 10-12 hours a day making a hard earned living just like Brite.

There is no missing Cora when she enters a room and not because she’s the prettiest, or statuesque, or even because of all the ink that may or may not be visible. It’s because she’s confident, moves with purpose and has a way of owning the space around her. I like it and when she smiles at me and sits across from me at one of the hi-top tables in front of the bar I can’t help but smile back. We would be friends, good friends, in another world I just know it. Of all the girls I’ve met in this world so far it’s her style, her attitude and even her tendency to meddle for the good of others I relate to the best.

I look her up and down, her small frame is always cute and enviable…especially right now.

“Wow, you bounced back quick.”

She laughs at me and waves at Asa over my shoulder. He’s watching this little get together with curious gold eyes. I have plans for my southern playboy and I know he’s just dying to know what they are, but he isn’t quite ready for redemption yet so he’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for him.

“I know, right? I’m super lucky.”

I nod. “How are things?”

She shrugs and it’s really hard not to just stare at those odd colored eyes. I wonder if she gets sick of people gaping at her.

“Pretty great. Rome is…well Rome. He has good days and bad days, but at his heart he is a protector so this new role was custom made for him. We’re never bored.”

I should hope not. When you have a man in your bed, in your life that looks like him-if you’re bored you’re doing it wrong. Plain and simple.

“That’s good to hear. He’s finally found some peace and happiness then?”

She lifts an eyebrow at me and kind of smirks. “I think we both have. It’s a learning curve for sure.”

I didn’t really think they were going to be a thing at the beginning. They seemed so far apart personality-wise but really as time went on I understood how similar they really were. Two people that were hard as stone on the outside but as fragile as glass on the inside. They also are both inherently caretakers, loyal to those they love and fiercely protective of those they consider their own. They are a perfect match.

“I’m happy for you both.”

“Thank you, but I could’ve done without the near death experience along the way.”

It’s my turn to lift an eyebrow. “Shit happens.”

She snorts at me in half humor, half exasperation. To me no love story is complete without a little drama, a little sacrifice. She should know this by now she saw what I did to Rule and Shaw, to Jet and Ayden and man she’s gonna kill me when she sees what I have in store for Nash…I’ll be avoiding them all for a while after his story.

“So what’s the biggest change now that you and Rome are officially a family…besides the obvious?”

She bites down on her lip and the turquoise eye gets bright and shiny while the brown one glints with mischief.

“Things are happening, we’re adjusting to being more than just us. Things are happening with the shop. Things are happening with the rest of the guys and like I said Rome is who he is. He can be moody and sulky so it’s an adjustment to be around someone with unpredictable moods. It’s a good thing he’s amazing in bed or I would want to smack him more often than not.” I know she’s just kidding so I roll my eyes at her which makes her laugh. “My dad is moving here to help out as well, so that’s a big change. Plus Rule and Rome are both working hard to rebuild a relationship with their folks now that Margot is actively seeking help. I’ve never really had so much family at my disposal. It’s actually really nice.”

It’s a good time for her to be surrounded by family and people that love her and Rome. Big changes are indeed taking place in the world of the Marked.

“So where you are now-would you change anything?”

She tilts her head to the side and considers me thoughtfully for a second. I mean her relationship with Rome moved fast, they both made decisions that were hasty and short sighted, they are both strong personalities that can clash and cause unnecessary conflict, but hey I just do what they tell me to do.

Finally she shakes her head and the messy blond waves move into her crazy eyes.

“No. I mean I would take back the words that hurt him. I would think before I speak sometimes, but that’s just what I do and I learned my lesson.”

I bet she did.

“What’s he think of your new tattoo?”

She blushes a little and both her eyebrows shoot up. That’s knowing look if there ever was one.

“What do you think he thinks?”

“I think he loves it and probably can’t keep his hands off of it.” Considering she has to be pretty much topless for him to get at it I bet they have a lot of fun playing show and tell.

“If you could tell the world one thing about your guy or about your relationship that they might not get, might question what would it be?”

“He’s a good man. He’s a hard man in a lot of ways, but he has to be. I know some people might think the way some things played out between the two of us happened too fast, happened without a lot of forethought for either of us, but sometimes that’s just how it goes. Attraction is a powerful thing, and trust me if you have seen him with his shirt off-ugh-common sense doesn’t exist in the face of all that hotness. Maybe rash decisions and spur of the moment reactions weren’t in line with the Rome that used to be, but the Rome he is now is getting much better at rolling with whatever comes his way. Including the things between us.”

It’s a good answer. I approve.

“Alright half-pint,” It’s a perfect nickname for her. “I have to get back to Rule’s bestie. Thank you for meeting me.”

She smiles at me again and I really wish hanging out with her was something I could do on a regular basis. I’m so happy she’s around to take care of my boys. They really do need her-all of them.

“Anytime. I owe you for every single great thing in my life.”

She really does but I’m not one to brag.

“I’ll see you around.”

She reaches out and puts a hand on my arm.

“Take it easy on Nash, will ya? He’s the sweet one.”

I know that, but I hate to tell her he’s gonna have a rough go of it for a minute. In the end though he’ll be exactly where he needs to be, with the person he absolutely needs to be with. All of the guys will.

Instead of looking at her when I reply I look at Asa who is still had those gold eyes trained on me.

“The best I can say is buckle in. We’re not even close to being done yet.”

That goes for all of you readers out there too. ☺

About the author:

I’m a native Coloradoan and if you live here you know why that is a source of pride. I love all the things Colorado has to offer and that is why I choose to set my books in this familiar setting. I try to write about things I know and am familiar with which is why my stories feature plenty of rock and roll and body modification.

I've been in the bar industry since I was in college and I spend over forty hours a week watching the interaction between men and women in a unique way. I think my 9 to 5 job offers me valuable insights into how relationships start and evolve in a social setting. I love it.

I like to write New Adult novels because I remember being in my early twenties and thinking I had it all figured out only to be proven wrong time and time again. When I look back those were the years that defined who I am today, and good or bad those decisions untimely set me on my current path, so that’s what I like to explore in my writing.
