"Waiting on" Wednesday is a weekly event hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.
Author: K.K. Hendin
Release date: March 11, 2014
The first year of college is supposed to be about parties, parties, and getting the hell out of Texas. Instead, Milcah Daniels is spending her eighteenth year in and out of Houston's hospitals. Her hair is falling out, they’ve cut off her boobs, and if she makes it to nineteen, she’ll consider it a personal miracle.
Breast cancer really has a way of messing with a girl’s social calendar.
When Milcah’s temporarily discharged from the hospital, she’s determined to get a tattoo for every medical procedure she’s had. Her quest leads her to Skin Stories, a new tattoo parlor a block from her apartment. And to it’s infuriatingly sexy artist, Callum Scott.
Callum is everything Milcah wants, and everything she shouldn’t have now. A new relationship when the official prognosis is one to five years is a terrible idea. But Callum doesn’t know about the breast cancer, and Milcah’s not running to tell him.
But when the doctor says things are actually looking positive, her entire life turns upside down. How is she supposed to start living again when she’s finally learned to accept her death?
Why I'm waiting: Okay. Seriously, I am so off-the-wall excited for this one. Like, so excited that if it landed in my lap right this very second, I'd devour it in one bite. No joke. That's how bad I need it and I just heard about this book two hours ago. Where has it been all my life? I know it's not out yet but I'm so happy I found out about it now so I can be crazy all over it leading up to its release! ;p
It sounds terribly heartrending but in the best way possible and that's why I need it like mad. I am an enormous sucker for books that are able to build up my hope, take it away (but not really) and then give it back. Haha, that probably made no sense. I just meant that the books that stick with me the hardest and the longest are the ones that make me feel like I'm dying. The ones where the problems and issues are so real and raw, I don't see any possible way for there to be a happy ending yet... the author whips one out that blows me away.
Something in my gut is telling me that Only The Good Die Young is one of those books. I mean, just read the synopsis, that alone has my heart half-breaking already! Also, the leading female's name is wicked awesome—Milcah. I love it, although, Hendin, how do you pronounce it? I am horrible at pronouncing names. More than half the time, I'll get it wrong before I get it right, lol!
So, that's what I'm anxiously waiting for this Wednesday! What are you waiting for? Leave a comment below and dish it out! I can't wait to see everyone's picks!
