Why Do You Like to Read?

Today in my English class, my teacher had told us that for homework, we were to do a quick write about why we like to read, or why we don't like to read. Right when I heard the prompt, I got so giddy inside. I was like, "YEAH! Another person to express my passion of reading to!"

In the blogosphere, we all love to read so I'm thinking there probably won't be a response saying why [insert name here] doesn't like to read.

So my question to all of you is WHY do you like to read? If you're a friend on Goodreads, or if you've added me recently, I ask all my friends:

what captivates you the most about reading? :)

It could just be one paragraph, one sentence, heck! Even one word explaining why you love to read.

My assignment has to be at least one page long, so after I write it up, I'll come back and type it up here!

Looking forward to everyone's responses!

  1. I love reading because with it, I can do things I'd never be able to do, meet people that I would never otherwise meet, and go places I'd never actually see. Books are a portal, and once you open one, you'll have an experience like no other. :)

  2. Reading is my stress release! The more stress in my life the more I read, which can cause more (should be doing other things) :D

  3. Books are like a whole new world to me. Once I start reading, I pretty much everything but literally fly into the pages and live the books with the characters. When I have a book in my hands, you have to call my name several times to get my attention because I'm so lost in the world of the book! You can be anybody, go anywhere, do anything, whatever you want! Books truly have no limits.

  4. Why I love reading, because I love to get lost in the world that the author has created and to see what will befall the characters in the story. ^_^

  5. Reading takes me to another place, to others people's issues, their life. I read to escape. It gives me the chance to be somewhere I can't be.

  6. Reading brings me feelings like I have never felt. I am a mother of four and my children read as much as I do. We love the excietment, joy, adventure, love, and fear that we find in books that don't come around in our everyday life.

  7. I love reading for kind of the same reason as music. It expresses feelings. Some you have felt and others not.
Also takes me into a different world and lets me get to know all sorts of characters =)

  8. I read to learn. To learn about other times I didn't get to live in, or live through. I read to escape. To travel to fictional lands, to meet and see amazing people and places. I read for so many reasons! I just love it!

  9. The reason I love to read it the great adventure I get to go everytime I dive into a book. I think being able to go into a different world is fun. I work a lot, take care of a home, a mommy and a wife. Its good just to let a book take me away.

  10. I love to read because it's an escape. From whatever problems I might be going through, from crappy weather outside, an escape from everything. I feel like I can just get lost in another world, another person's life, and that books not only have the ability to change lives, but to also express living in a way that sometimes other things can't. :)
