If You Stay Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

Welcome to my stop on the If You Stay Blog Tour hosted by Inkslinger PR.

This week has been filled with all amazing things If You Stay. The book was set to release on 2/12 but instead, it released a few days early, making its release 2/7. Despite it releasing early, we still treated the 12th as its book birthday.

On 2/12, Books Over Boys, along with a ton of other bloggers, blew up the web with a bunch of reviews and giveaways to make sure that fellow bookworms were aware of this one, to make sure it was on everyone's radar! I was so excited for this book to finally be released because I love it so much!

Courtney Cole had stated a few times that she was really nervous and anxious for others to read it because... well, when you read it, you'll know why, and I totally get her nervousness but I give her ginormous kudos for going about it the way she did. I know she took a risk with it but like Lauren Oliver once said,"He who leaps for the sky may fall, it's true. But he may also fly." And baby, If You Stay is definitely flying, flying its way up the charts! Woot!

Before I get to today's guest post by the amazing Courtney Cole, let me give you a re-cap of this week!

Book Reviews:

So yeah, if you still haven't picked up If You Stay, well... it's your bad because you are seriously missing out. Note: If after all my raving, you do decide to pick it up and after reading it, you end up thinking I'm crazy for praising this book the way I am, feel free to not tell me, lol! But on the real though, you along with everyone else should really give this one a shot!

Okay, enough of me going on and on about how amazing this book is! Onwards to Courtney Cole's awesome guest post. By the way, I am so honored and thrilled to have her here with us today on Valentine's Day! Eep, that's too cool for me! Oooh, another by the way: HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

About the book:

If You Stay (Beautifully Broken, #1)Title: If You Stay
Author: Courtney Cole
Publisher: Lakehouse Press
Release date: February 7, 2013

24-year old Pax Tate is an asshole.

He’s a tattooed, rock-hard bad-boy with a bad attitude to match.

But he’s got his reasons.

His mother died when Pax was seven, leaving a hole in his heart filled with guilt although he doesn’t understand why. What he does know is that he and his dad are left alone and with more issues than they can count.

As Pax grew up, he tried to be the kid his father always wanted; the perfect golden boy, but it didn’t work. His dad couldn’t overcome his grief long enough to notice and Pax couldn’t keep up the impossible perfect fa├žade.

So he slipped far, far from it.

Now, he uses drugs and women to cope with the ugliness, the black void that he doesn’t want to deal with. If he pretends that the emptiness isn’t there, then it isn’t, right?

And it’s never more apparent than when he meets Mila.

Sweet, beautiful Mila Hill is the fresh air to his hardened frown, the beauty to his ugly heart. He doesn’t know how to not hurt her, but he quickly realizes that he’s got to figure it out because he needs her to breathe.

When memories of his mother’s death resurface from where he’s repressed them for so long, Mila is there to catch him when the guilt starts making sense. Mila is the one…the one who can save him from his broken troubled heart; from his issues, from the emptiness.

But only if he can stop being an asshole long enough to allow it.

He knows that. And he’s working on it.

But is that enough to make her stay?

Please note, IF YOU STAY is not Young Adult. It is mature New Adult, with explicit scenes, language and some drug use.

About the author:

Courtney Cole is a novelist who would eat mythology for breakfast if she could. She has a degree in Business, but has since discovered that corporate America is not nearly as fun to live in as fictional worlds. She loves chocolate and roller coasters and hates waiting and rude people.

Courtney lives in quiet suburbia, close to Lake Michigan, with her real-life Prince Charming, her ornery kids (there is a small chance that they get their orneriness from their mother) and a small domestic zoo.

Swoonworthy Boys and What Makes Them So

By Courtney Cole

We all know swoonworthy boys… the ones where, when they first enter a scene in a book, our hearts palpitate and we’re instantly like…GIVE ME MORE.  But what makes them that way?

I think that each of us is different in what we like in a boy.  Some like a great sense of humor, some like a great smile, some like chivalry, some like dimples.  But there is one thing that I have recently found to be true… a common thread…one thing that MANY women like.

A bad boy.  I found this after my book, If You Stay, went up on Goodreads.  Oh my word.  Keep in mind, that at that point, all anyone could read was the book’s description, yet women were already swooning over Pax.  Why?  Because he’s a bad boy.

I can’t tell you how many women commented or contacted me, saying, “You had me at tattooed, rock-hard bad boy.”  Or you had me at “Pax Tate is an asshole.” It was unreal.

And I think the reason why is that (in my opinion) women like to fix what is broken.  We have this inherent need (due to our maternal instincts) to fix a man who is broken on the inside.  We see the potential, we see the vulnerable little boy inside a hardened, broken man, and we long to fix it.  We see his good traits, whether it is a badass sense of humor or undying loyalty, and know beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he is redeemable- if only he realizes that he has something to redeem himself for.   He’s the kind of man that makes our hearts race and our knees weak.

That’s why we always swoon over the bad boy.  We see what he CAN be.  And we root for him to realize his potential.  In our heads, we want to give him something to live for, to change for.  We want to reach inside and fix the damaged boy so that the sexy-as-hell man can finally be happy.

This is why, in my opinion, the Bad Boy is the most swoonworthy.

  3. I think you hit the proverbial nail on the head with women swooning for bad boys because of our need to fix them. I LOVE a bad boy when I can see his potential - see that he has redeeming qualities. When I first read the blurb for If You Stay, that's what hooked me. And I can't wait to see how Mila reveals all Pax's redeeming qualities, because I KNOW they're there. :)
