For today's stop, I've got a great post by the lovely Emma Hart on how the cover for Never Forget came to be. If you haven't seen the cover, well... you'll definitely see it in today's post and it's gorgeous! I love the colors and it's just so cute!

Guest Post: Creating the Cover by Emma Hart
How many covers
does it take to find the perfect one? For Never Forget, it was four. Yep.
Four.
The first image
I picked, I loved – but as I started writing I realised it had no connection
whatsoever to my story. So it was back to the drawing board. I searched for
another image. I found one, and I made the second cover.
I didn't really
like it that much, honestly.
It still wasn't
right. It didn't match the feel of the book! The strongest theme in Never
Forget is romance, and I wanted a cover that told you that. A cover that showed
a prospective reader that it was cover to cover kisses and swooning. So I
searched. Again.
Then I gave up.
I figured the cover would come to me when it was ready. Annoyingly.
A close friend
is working on her debut novel and I said I would help her with the cover, and I
actually found the cover image for Never Forget whilst looking for the other
image.
I found it when I wasn't even looking for it.
I knew
instantly that the image was the one. I edited it – I actually spent
hours on the lighting and effects to get it right. You could say I'm somewhat
of a perfectionist...
When the image
was edited to my standards, I cropped and resized it. I added text. I shared
with my closest friends and betas. They swooned. I flailed. All was well.
Until it got to
two weeks before the planned cover reveal and I decided the font was boring as
hell.
I told you I
was fussy.
I went back to
the site I download my fonts from and I searched for ages for the font I finally
ended up using – New Garden. It's not fancy, but it has just enough curvature
in the little details for me to say 'yes' to it. As for the pink, well, I just
like pink.
I sent it back
to my friends and betas with the 'is this better?' question. Cue nail biting,
hair pulling and face hiding. They all said yes and I stared at it for an
undetermined amount of time. I made it the lock screen on my iPhone and looked
at it a ridiculous amount of times a day.
And I didn't
get sick of looking at it.
It was the
cover. The image, the edits, the typography.. It was done.
The cover is
important, not just to a reader, but also to a writer. I think the author has
to really love her cover – and I mean really, really love it. It has to be
something you'll never get bored of, because how can you expect someone to love
your cover if you don't?
I'm thankful
the cover reveal went so well with so many people saying how much they loved it
– and are still saying it.
It's not much
of a story, but I think it shows just how much work goes into a cover,
especially if the author designs it themselves. Sure, I could hire someone to
do it for me, but frankly I don't have the extra cash for that and it's way
more fun doing it myself!

I think that was a pretty cool story about the cover. It really is pretty!! Glad that she found just what she was looking for and was able to edit it to her liking.
