The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater Giveaway

It happens at the start of every November: the Scorpio Races. Riders attempt to keep hold of their water horses long enough to make it to the finish line. Some riders live. Others die.

At age nineteen, Sean Kendrick is the returning champion. He is a young man of few words, and if he has any fears, he keeps them buried deep, where no one else can see them.

Special Someone Saturday

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Special Someone Saturday is a weekly meme created by Ishita over at The Reading Fish. Every week she will post a question and then you answer it by making a blog post. After you do so, head on over to Ishita's blog and leave a comment with the link to your SSS post so everyone can check it out! This week's question came from Aeicha over at Words Spelunking:
Who's your favorite baddie character? Who's the villain that you love to hate or hate to love?
Hmm. My favorite baddie character would have to be...Luke from A Touch Mortal. Muahahaha! Leah Clifford wrote an awesome villain in that guy! He might not really be the villain...but, well actually he is. I think. There was just something super appealing about him. You know, the bad guy we all love to hate. ;) He had that "I'm the bad guy-you should totally stay away from me" vibe going on but at the same time he also had that "You know you can't resist me" vibe working for him. Lol! And if you read my A Touch Mortal review, he was definitely one of my most favorite characters in the book, overall!

So readers, who's your favorite baddie character?! The one you hate...but you just can't resist? =)

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
My $0.02

First off, let me just say that Jennifer L. Armentrout has quickly wedged herself up into being one of my most favorite authors of the year!  She has written an exhilarating debut with everything that I could ask for—a kick-ass heroine with a smart tongue, fast-paced action, steaming love-making scenes and the rise of a possible love triangle! Who doesn’t love those?
There were just so many things that I enjoyed about Half-Blood.  For example, I loved Alex’s sharp and witty remarks!  She is strong-willed, determined, and certainly stubborn at times—but who couldn’t relate?  She’s so strong that hardly do we ever get a glimpse of what’s under her skin.  But beneath it all, she’s hurting and in a lot of pain and as JLA depicts those emotions—it’s enough to make one cry for Alex and everything she has gone through.  When Alex was 14 years old, her mother made the both of them leave the protection and security that came with The Covenant and they moved to live in cities throughout the world.  From the get-go, I was thrown into all the action, biting my nails, being nervous for Alex’s survival.  From the turn of events, she finds herself back at The Covenant where she has to prove herself to be able to continue staying at The Covenant.  Everything that happened after that was paced just right.  JLA establishes this situation where Alex and Aiden are together, basically all the time and because of that, I could not thank her enough!  That is one of the main reasons why I highly praise Half-Blood!
I also loved all the character interactions—they were very believable and I felt like they were my friends!  Like I mentioned before, JLA’s dialogue flows right off the pages and it’s every day stuff that I would say, well not exactly but the tone and choice of words—yeah, very me.  Alex’s friendship with Caleb is very brother and sister like; it was so easy for them to talk to one another and just be.  He was like a big brother, somewhat, to Alex and I loved it!
Now, onto Aiden—he is in a league of his own!  When I close my eyes and picture him, I see someone dressed all in black (Thanks JLA! *__*), of course, and I see him with both of his arms folded behind his back with a very hard and guarded look on his face—expressing no emotion.  But you can just tell that deep within, he has a tornado of emotions swirling within his core.  I love the fact that he has such a guarded attitude and try as hard as he may, Alex gets him.  That is exactly what I love about JLA’s leading male: he is almost like the brooding type, yet he has a very caring heart and he’s vulnerable once you break that shield.  That’s what makes him hot and totally swoon-worthy to me!
And let’s talk a little bit about Seth. Seth? Seth who? Yeah, the summary of the book leaves that one out, doesn’t it?  Even though it doesn’t seem like it, he actually plays a very important role in Half-Blood.  And don’t take the word very so lightly.  I didn’t get to see much of him but I will most definitely keep an eye out for him when Pure rolls around!  Hence, the possible love triangle, just saying.
Jennifer L. Armentrout creates a very original story line to Greek mythology so this is absolutely one series that you do not want to miss!  From all the daimon killings to all the heart-pounding OMGs, this is one debut that will rock you off your toes!  Make sure you strap in extra hard because this is one heck of a ride!

BOB's One Year Blogoversary & My Reflection

Wow. Has it seriously been a year since BOB was born?! *takes a moment to revisit the past year* I can't believe everything that has happened since October 19, 2010 to...today. Before blogging, I was just another avid reader, always anxious to get my hands on another book. Before blogging, when I finished reading a book, I would gush about it for days to my sister...and pretty much anyone else in my family that would listen to me prattle on and on about books. Before blogging, I never knew what ARCs were. Before blogging, I was never aware of the ginormous amount of bookworms out there that are just like myself. I could go on and on for days about my life before blogging; it has definitely enriched my life so much that I don't know what I'd do without it now. It might make me sound like a total nut-job, but my blog has become such a huge part of me.

I have met so many amazing, incredible, awesome, straight-up real people that have made this part of blogging that much better. All the twitter conversations, to all the comments I have received on the blog, to all the for real laugh-out-louds - all of it, I will never forget. I know, I sound scatter-brained and all over the place but my emotions, my feelings, and my thoughts are all hitting me at once, lol! I cannot write this post without mentioning some awesome people that I have encountered over this past year. To begin with, during those first few weeks that I started blogging, I became a frequent visitor of the two blogs titled: A Life Bound by Books and Total Bookaholic. Last year during this same exact month, they were hosting a whole month of pure, creepy awesomeness called Haunted Halloween (see sidebar, year 2). I was a total newbie to all this blog stuff so I was completely shocked and amazed that they were hosting giveaways where they were basically giving books away for free. Yes, free. To be honest, they hooked me there, lol! I checked back in daily and I read all the creepy guest posts by all the various authors they featured and whenever I think about my first few months of blogging, my mind automatically reaches out to them. So, I would like to give a huge shout-out to Lisa over at A Life Bound By Books and Jessica over at Total Bookaholic for being awesome at what they do. Along my way, I met even more awesome people such as Katie over at Call Me Crazy YA Reviews, Patrick over at iRandomBlogger, Kare over at Epic Booknerd, Alex over at More Than Just A Book, Darla over at D for Darla's Definite Reads, Brielle over at Awesome Bookworm, and Ecey over at EceRed and...the list could go on forever. You guys are all my RCL buddies - and you guys just rock so hard! Another group that I would love to mention are The Little Reapers - you guys are frickin' hilarious and I know I would never be bored with you guys! And lastly, I would like to give a huge shout-out to everyone who participated in the YA Crush Tournament that took over my whole summer. Lol! Everyone in that made the tournament a blast and all of you guys are so fun! I'm talking about Jaime, Patricia, Brooke, Jena, Rachel, Brittany, Amy, and Heidi! I heart all of you guys! I know *facepalm*! I'm missing so many people (that's a freaking understatement) and I'm so sorry if I forgot you but every single person I've met and talked to, you guys all mean the world to me - trying to not get all gushy and mushy here. You guys get me, you guys understand what it means to swoon over a fictional character, you guys get what it means to get super animated when talking about a book, you guys just get me.

And man oh man, the authors! Blogging *trying not to freak the freak out* has opened up so many ways to interact with authors, I cannot believe it! The author interviews, the guest posts, the character interviews - all of it has been unbelieveable. All the twitter conversations with all of you guys has been too awesome for my lame vocabulary. Blogging has opened up so many ways for me to interact with fellow bookworms such as myself and I am extremely thankful! My blogging experience will be one that I will never forget. So many fun times - the laughter, the drama, the OMGS, the...everything! To all you new bloggers out there, all I have to say to you is that: everything takes time. Oh, and welcome aboard!

Aaah, this post was long and long and long. I don't even know if I got everything I wanted to say out there; I was trying to be reflective but it looks like I was just rambling. Ugh, Momo Fail. BUT all I wanted to say was:

Cheers to many more years to come! To all my readers, you guys...man, that's a post for another day, lol! Thanks SO much, from the bottom of my heart, for sticking with me and my crazy, wacko posts! I love you guys!
