The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures.Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden.Unfortunately, she's crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn't her biggest problem--staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.
My $0.02

First off, let me just say that Jennifer L. Armentrout has quickly wedged herself up into being one of my most favorite authors of the year!  She has written an exhilarating debut with everything that I could ask for—a kick-ass heroine with a smart tongue, fast-paced action, steaming love-making scenes and the rise of a possible love triangle! Who doesn’t love those?
There were just so many things that I enjoyed about Half-Blood.  For example, I loved Alex’s sharp and witty remarks!  She is strong-willed, determined, and certainly stubborn at times—but who couldn’t relate?  She’s so strong that hardly do we ever get a glimpse of what’s under her skin.  But beneath it all, she’s hurting and in a lot of pain and as JLA depicts those emotions—it’s enough to make one cry for Alex and everything she has gone through.  When Alex was 14 years old, her mother made the both of them leave the protection and security that came with The Covenant and they moved to live in cities throughout the world.  From the get-go, I was thrown into all the action, biting my nails, being nervous for Alex’s survival.  From the turn of events, she finds herself back at The Covenant where she has to prove herself to be able to continue staying at The Covenant.  Everything that happened after that was paced just right.  JLA establishes this situation where Alex and Aiden are together, basically all the time and because of that, I could not thank her enough!  That is one of the main reasons why I highly praise Half-Blood!
I also loved all the character interactions—they were very believable and I felt like they were my friends!  Like I mentioned before, JLA’s dialogue flows right off the pages and it’s every day stuff that I would say, well not exactly but the tone and choice of words—yeah, very me.  Alex’s friendship with Caleb is very brother and sister like; it was so easy for them to talk to one another and just be.  He was like a big brother, somewhat, to Alex and I loved it!
Now, onto Aiden—he is in a league of his own!  When I close my eyes and picture him, I see someone dressed all in black (Thanks JLA! *__*), of course, and I see him with both of his arms folded behind his back with a very hard and guarded look on his face—expressing no emotion.  But you can just tell that deep within, he has a tornado of emotions swirling within his core.  I love the fact that he has such a guarded attitude and try as hard as he may, Alex gets him.  That is exactly what I love about JLA’s leading male: he is almost like the brooding type, yet he has a very caring heart and he’s vulnerable once you break that shield.  That’s what makes him hot and totally swoon-worthy to me!
And let’s talk a little bit about Seth. Seth? Seth who? Yeah, the summary of the book leaves that one out, doesn’t it?  Even though it doesn’t seem like it, he actually plays a very important role in Half-Blood.  And don’t take the word very so lightly.  I didn’t get to see much of him but I will most definitely keep an eye out for him when Pure rolls around!  Hence, the possible love triangle, just saying.
Jennifer L. Armentrout creates a very original story line to Greek mythology so this is absolutely one series that you do not want to miss!  From all the daimon killings to all the heart-pounding OMGs, this is one debut that will rock you off your toes!  Make sure you strap in extra hard because this is one heck of a ride!

In Other Words...

In Other Words – Poetry on SYN FM Radio

**Edited at 9:42pm

I've had this idea or curiosity brewing in my mind for a while now but I just never got to asking you so while I was in the shower, where all my genius ideas come from, it came to the front of my mind and I had to make a post.

I know that when someone asks you who your favorite YA guy is...it's generally very hard to choose because you know, you can't just have one! Ha! Now, I've never read The Hunger Games series but I think *runs to Goodreads to retrieve the summary* OK, I'm back! So there's the annual Hunger Games where one boy and girl have to go in and...yeah. So, I was curious, say a battle like this occurred and if you have to call forth seven guys under the categories of 1.) Vampire, 2.) Angel, 3.) Werewolf, 4.) Faerie, 5.) Human, 6.) Gods (Greek mythology related) and 7.) Demon - who would you choose?!

In other words, who are your number one top favorites under each of those categories? Or in some other other words, who would you call forward to defend your honor? ;) For me, here are my top five:

1.) Vampire - Edward Cullen
2.) Angel - Will from Angelfire
3.) Werewolf - Brandon from The Crescent
4.) Faerie - Ash, the Ice Prince
5.) Regular human - Alex Kylar
6.) Gods - Aiden St. Delphi
7.) Demon - Luc Cain

And here's why: Edward Cullen because...well, he's in the first book that I've ever read about vampires so he'll always be number one! Will from Angelfire because...well, have you read Angelfire?!?! 'Nuff said! Brandon from The Crescent because he's oh-so humananh! Ash, the Ice Prince because ohmmgee, he's the perfect brooding, broken guy! Alex Kylar because even though he's just a regular human, he's got enough spunk about him that you'll confuse him with being an angel or...something else completely! Aiden St. Delphi because he's so sexy that I'm out for a spell to make him jump out of the book and become real! And lastly, my most favorite demon is the one and only, Luc Cain because he's sooo scorching hot that all the fire in the room will leave no oxygen left for you to breathe; in other words, he's breathlessly hot! ;) #toochessy? LOL

Who are your top six and why?!

Sign-ups for Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton Blog Tour

So...remember this POST where I discussed my near death experience? Okay, probably not; go back and read it.

Are you back? I betcha didn't even read it! LOL, or you did. Anyway, the post just basically explains how I won my copy of Wings of the Wicked! After I won the book, I didn't receive my copy of it until...oh, probably a month later. The day it came in the mail was one of the most exciting mail days in history over at my house!

That night I started reading it asap and if sleep didn't get in the way, I would have devoured it all in one sitting but then again, I'm glad I took my time - three days - yeah, that's me, taking my time! ;) And if you follow me on twitter, I was blowing up the #WingsoftheWicked hashtag!

I thoroughly enjoyed every centimeter of Wings - from the dedications page to the acknowledgements and because I love Wings so much, I am willing to pass along my copy on a book blog tour...of some sort!

I'm not planning for this to be anything strict with lots and lots of rules but I am trusting that if you get put on the tour, you'll agree to my 5-6 rules! There are only two things that I require from you after you read the book  - if you get chosen, you'll receive all the details in the email! Wings of the Wicked releases on February 14th, 2012 so I am planning to send out Wings to the first person of the tour during the first week of October, preferably the first, but we'll see how things turn out! I hope that two full months will be enough for the book to make its round to everyone but I won't be expecting the book back until the end of December at the earliest and January at the latest. Oh gosh, I hope that my copy of the ARC won't get too battered in doing this! Ah!

At first, I wasn't planning on making a blog post; I was taking people from twitter so right now I have about eight people and I am considering taking in 5-6 more people. If I do, that means that at the most there will be about 15 people on the tour. I am also only taking people from the US. If you have read Angelfire and you are literally dying to read Wings of the Wicked, fill out the FORM HERE! Oh and I guess you guys should know this: I'm only taking sign-ups today. After today, I will not be accepting anymore entries!

P. S. I am not a tour host, never have been, so I'm kind of just going with it and if I seem scattered brained, I apologize beforehand; I'm just picking up bits and pieces here and there from what I've seen on other blog tours.

Good luck and happy reading!

This meme is brought to you weekly by MizB over at Should Be Reading!

Anyone can play along, just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)

My Teaser
He lifted his head and brought his face so close to mine that I could feel the heat radiating off him. His breathing was ragged when his mouth finally met mine, the kiss deep and full of something far more carnal than any kiss before that. He kissed me as fiercely as he fought in battle, with as much determination and calculation as he had when he killed, and I melted into his body. No one had ever kissed me like that before, no one could ever kiss me like he did.

Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire, #2)I....yeah, it's so obvious as to why I had to share this one. My heart swelled so bad when I read this, I couldn't even breathe for a straight minute; I read these lines over and over about five billion times before I turned the page! My eyes: O_O | My mouth: jaw-dropped. | My heart: -------- (flatline!) |

Whew, sooooo?! I know, gush fest! <3 Omg, humananah! So intensely hot! Haha! A fun little tidbit for when you get your hands on Wings: make sure that you check out the song Alibi by 30 Seconds to Mars! Even if you're not a book/music person, make sure you're familiar with the song because THAT is so Wellie's song right there! Oooh, and check out Mariah McManus's song Unarmed ← THAT song is all Ellie!

P. S. If you have a Teaser Tuesday, link 'em to me in the comments and I will definitely check it out!

Have a great Tuesday and always, happy reading!

The YA Crush Tournament Comes To An End

On July 2nd after an exhausting Saturday afternoon, I laid down to finally get some shut eye, but of course before I checked out for the evening, I logged on to the twittah. My awesome blogger buddies Jaime and Patricia were tweeting with Brittany and Amy about something called the YA Crush Tournament. I was reading a few of their tweets and so I finally checked out the blog and I read THIS post and scrolled through the list of contenders and sad to say, I only knew about six of the guys on the list so I went ahead and decided to advocate for Patch Cipriano from the Hush Hush saga by Becca Fitzpatrick!

I did not know what I had put myself in charge of, lol! Surely four days after the original post went up, the first two matches went up on July 6th - the start of the first round of the tournament. Because they were the very first two matches of the whole tourney, I wasn't really sure how things worked but the rules and voting were super simple. All you had to do was vote and vote and vote. Oh and spread the word, of course! Each match lasted 48 hours and the voting process was limitless; you were able to vote as many times as you liked! Immediately after the two days were up, the next matches began and so on and so forth until the end of the first round.

Before Patch's first match in the first round against Renier Laroche from Andrea Cremer's Nightshade, my part of advocating was...to spread the word and inform people about the tourney! So in the days leading up to the match, I was tweeting like crazy, I contacted the administrators for the official fan website, I was all over the Hush Hush fan forum. I made a thread post on Goodreads, and I personally contacted people who stopped by Becca Fitzpatrick's blog; I was advocating like crazy! I wasn't sure if Patch would make it through his matches, nonetheless get as far as he did! At the end of the two days, Patch was victorious against Ren and so that advanced him into round two where he was competing against Peeta from Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games; without a doubt, I went into the match thinking for sure that Patch was going to get pounded into the ground but by some miracle, Patch stood tall at the end! In the third round of the tournament, Patch was up against his toughest competitor yet - Ash, the Ice Prince, from Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series!

On the day of the match, I was away at school for this school event so I wasn't able to advocate as much besides tweet from my phone, which was exactly what I did! I was so busy at school that every two hours or so I was able to check my phone and I just kept seeing tweets that Ash was in the lead and then later, tweets were coming in that Patch's army was called upon and...yeah, the match was definitely going back and forth! Because of the first round and the incredibly crazy dedicated fans, we broke the voting systems and from round two and on, everyone was limited to one vote per computer - which in my opinion made the voting seem more fair and accurate. By ten o'clock that evening, I checked the post one last time and saw that Patch was behind by about 200 almost 300 votes and so by then, I had sorta, kinda given up hope that Patch was going to be able to catch up. I mean, where was I going to get that many more people to come and vote for Patch?! ;) Also, at that time the votes were: Patch was somewhere in the 1700 and Ash was in the 2000. Soon after I drifted off to sleep and I was restless (yes, super dedicated right here) because around five almost six in the morning, I woke up and checked on the voting results and saw that Patch and Ash were incredibly close! As the time came down to five minutes, all I could do was stare at the post and break the refresh button! LOL

It was SO intense, my leg was shaking so bad, I couldn't control it! My eyes were like this: O__O as the votes for both Ash and Patch increased after every refresh! They were surely chasing each other! At the very last minute, literally, Ash beat out Patch by about forty votes and...there was the end of Patch's victorious streak!
This whole tournament has been lots and lots of fun; of course it was also gruesome, stressful, tiring and exhausting but fun, without a doubt! But honestly, I'm glad that Patch got out when he did because I don't think...actually I know that Patch won't stand a chance against Jace from Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments! That will be one intense match! Also, because Ash beat Patch in the third round, he will be going up against Jace on August 8th!

Now, thinking back about the whole tournament, it basically made up the whole second half of my summer, lol! Additionally, because of this whole tournament, I have made a huge load of new friends via twitter! Other advocates from the tournament, Patch devotees and just new people in general! This has been a great experience but if this tourney returns next year, pleeeeeeease hold me back and do not let me advocate; this time around was almost going to be the death of me! No joke! It takes a lot of work and dedication to support our YA crush worthy boys, but hey, they're all winners and we all love more than just one of them!

Now after the third match where it was Ash versus Patch, all that I'm thinking about now is: If Ash and Patch ever met.....

LOL, answer that in the comments; imagine that! If Ash and Patch ever met...wow, they would be complete opposites! I think...somewhat!

My Teaser
My fingers brushed the silver against his chest, the fondness of my memories of it pressing down on my heart, and my gaze moved to his tattoos. My hand slid across his skin to trace the delicate swirls of ink down his neck and arm. The muscle beneath his skin rippled at my touch, and he watched me in silence. My finger followed each intricate line of ink, and as the memory came, the sadness in my heart sank into my stomach.

Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire, #2) I just had to share this with everyone because after finishing the book and thinking about everything that happened, this scene without a doubt has got to be my most favorite part of the entire book! It's hard to say why, because a) the book won't be out for another six months and b) it's not one of the obvious picks. ;) I mean, of course all  the sexiness can't compare but then again, that's why this scene stood out to me the most. <3

What do you think this scene was all about?! Leave your thoughts in the comments; I'd love to hear them!

P. S. If you have a Teaser Tuesday, link 'em to me in the comments as well and I will definitely check it out!

Have a great Tuesday and always, happy reading!
