Author Interview + Guest Post: Darker Days by Jus Accardo

Title: Darker Days (The Darker Agency, #1)
Author: Jus Accardo
Release date: August 26, 2013

Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

Welcome to Books Over Boys, Jus! First off, tell us a little about yourself and your current release, Darker Days.

I'm a coffeeholic that's lived in NY her entire life. I share a house with my husband and three dogs that's sometimes guarded by the bear we have living out back, Oswald.

Darker Days is the first book in a YA paranormal series called the Darker Agency, and follows seventeen year old Jessie Darker. She goes to school during the day, but at night helps her mom with the family business. The Darker Agency. The deal in the stapes—cheating spouses and insurance scams—their specialty is just a little…darker. Their skills are tested when a hottie looking to round up the Seven Deadly Sins saunters into their office.

Q. Darker Days involves the seven deadly sins. How much research went into writing this book? During your research, was there anything new or interesting that you learned?

My research was super easy! I sinned. A lot.
hehe. Just kidding. Or, am I…?

Q. If Jus Accardo was a Sin, which one would you be and why? ;p

I'd have to say sloth, because I'm a sucker for just putting everything off and sitting down with a book. Sometimes a movie. The outside world can fall away for all I can when I'm immersed in a good story.

Q. For those who are unfamiliar with Jessie, how would you introduce her? And what song(s) best describes her work ethic?

Jessie Darker = Teenager. Chocolate lover. Monster Masher.

As for her work ethic? I think Marilyn Manson's Personal Jesus is a good one. It totally screams Jessie to me.

Q. What’s your favorite thing about Lukas? What’s one of your favorite lines from him?

My favorite thing about Lukas is that he's a good guy in a crappy situation, but he doesn't let it rule his life, ya know? He still knows right from wrong, and even though he's got some hard choices, he generally makes the right ones.

"It saddens me to bear witness to the decline of the English language."

Q. What book are you currently reading? What books are at the top of your TBR pile?

I just started Colleen Hoover's Hopeless and it's awesome so far!

It tends to change depending on my mood, but right now, I'm dying to finish the rest of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books (a friend forced me to read the first one and I'm hooked).

[BOB: Oh my gosh, I love the BDB series so hardcore and I'm in the same boat as you! I need to finish the last four, I think. I lose track of which book I just recently finished to which book I need to start next, lol!]

Q. Can you share anything about what you’re working on at this time or what’s next?

I'm bouncing between edits on book two in the Darker Agency series, A Darker Past, and final edits on my first New Adult title, Ruined. I just saw the trailer. OMG. I can't wait to share!

[BOB: New Adult? Shut up! I can haz? ;p Eep, I can't wait to hear more about this, for sure!]

Q. Lastly, before you go, can you share a snippet from Darker Days with us?

One of my faves…:

And then he kissed me. At first, I didn't know what to do. His lips moved over mine, soft, warm, and tasting faintly of the ketchup he’d slathered his french fries in at dinner. Arms tightening around my waist, he urged me closer, teasing my lips apart with his tongue.

I mimicked his movements, terrified I was doing it wrong. But he didn't complain. Instead, a small noise of contentment sounded low in his throat. The sound tickled my stomach and sent a chill racing up my spine. Seconds later, that single chill exploded into fireworks.

Five Things Jessie Wants You To Know About Lukas

  1. He's an amazing artist
  2. He's a great kisser!
  3. He doesn't like the smell of ginger
  4. He snores. Horribly!
  5. He has the biggest heart…

Lukas’ Five Favorite Things About Jessie

  1. Her smile
  2. The way she can always surprise me
  3. Her sense of humor
  4. Her bravery and enormous heart
  5. The sound she makes when she's trying not to giggle. She deems this too girly
