Soul Screamers Reading Challenge

Okay, so when 2012 rolled around, I had told myself that I would not be participating in any reading challenges whatsoever because last year when I was new to blogging and totally excited about all things blogging, I signed up for a few...and then I didn't follow through with them. I mean, twelve months is a very long time to seriously be on track about all the books you read and for me, it sort of took away the pleasure of just reading for fun.

But here's one challenge I'm serious about doing because my awesome blogger pal, Rachel, over at Fiktshun.com, is dead crazy about this series. I'm not really even sure what the series is about but based on Rachel's raving and high praise, I'll definitely be giving it a shot. And the series already has five books out - gasp! - I love when there are a lot of books out in a series already because when I start it, I don't stop until they're all read and it's even better because I don't have to wait for the next book! HAHA!

Rachel made a blog post about all of the details for the reading challenge and...I just read it and...there's a lot of info that was covered so I'll just be linking you guys, you know, if you guys want to participate and all that good stuff!

The main details of this challenge, from Rachel herself is:

The Challenge:

To READ (or re-read) and REVIEW (or post about) all five full-length books in the Soul Screamers series by Rachel Vincent between January 15 and June 14, 2012.

The Books:

My Soul to Take
January 15-February 14, 2012

My Soul to Save
February 15-March 14, 2012

My Soul to Keep
March 15-April 14-2012

My Soul to Steal
April 15-May14, 2012

If I Die
May 15-June 14, 2012

The challenge will run from January 15th, 2012 until June 14th, 2012. Rachel has planned it out to the point where one month could be read each month and we'll finish book five just in time for book six, Before I Wake's US release!

Omg, out of all the five covers,
I think I love this one the most.
Like...I just wanna marry it!

From Rachel herself, the challenge in a nutshell:

CHALLENGE…

To READ (or RE-READ) and REVIEW (or POST ABOUT) all five Soul Screamers novels by Rachel Vincent from January 15-June 14, 2012.

WHAT TO DO…

1. Sign Up with the linky below. (The linky could be found on her blog post, which I linked above.)
2. Create a participation post (optional) and leave your link on the SSRC page on this blog ([Fikt]shun).
3. Stop back each month and leave your links to any reads/reviews in the monthly Soul Screamers Challenge post for that month only.
4. Grab a challenge button from the sidebar (the code for the button can be found on her blog sidebar)! (Not required).
I'm really excited about this challenge and even though I fail at completing challenges, I feel that I will be able to complete this one...I hope! I would love it if you joined along with me and everyone else who  has signed up! The challenge starts on Sunday, January 15th so that means you have today and tomorrow to get your hands on at least book one. Later today when I get off school, I'll be heading to Barnes to grab the first two in the series! :) Eeep, SO EXCITED - new books! Freak the freak out!

What do you think? Does this sound like a pretty exciting challenge that you could take on? Have you already read this series but would definitely like to re-read the books in time for Before I Wake's release?! Let me know all your deepest, darkest thoughts in the comments below! ;)

And last but not least,

HAPPY FRIDAY!

The YA Crush Tournament Comes To An End

On July 2nd after an exhausting Saturday afternoon, I laid down to finally get some shut eye, but of course before I checked out for the evening, I logged on to the twittah. My awesome blogger buddies Jaime and Patricia were tweeting with Brittany and Amy about something called the YA Crush Tournament. I was reading a few of their tweets and so I finally checked out the blog and I read THIS post and scrolled through the list of contenders and sad to say, I only knew about six of the guys on the list so I went ahead and decided to advocate for Patch Cipriano from the Hush Hush saga by Becca Fitzpatrick!

I did not know what I had put myself in charge of, lol! Surely four days after the original post went up, the first two matches went up on July 6th - the start of the first round of the tournament. Because they were the very first two matches of the whole tourney, I wasn't really sure how things worked but the rules and voting were super simple. All you had to do was vote and vote and vote. Oh and spread the word, of course! Each match lasted 48 hours and the voting process was limitless; you were able to vote as many times as you liked! Immediately after the two days were up, the next matches began and so on and so forth until the end of the first round.

Before Patch's first match in the first round against Renier Laroche from Andrea Cremer's Nightshade, my part of advocating was...to spread the word and inform people about the tourney! So in the days leading up to the match, I was tweeting like crazy, I contacted the administrators for the official fan website, I was all over the Hush Hush fan forum. I made a thread post on Goodreads, and I personally contacted people who stopped by Becca Fitzpatrick's blog; I was advocating like crazy! I wasn't sure if Patch would make it through his matches, nonetheless get as far as he did! At the end of the two days, Patch was victorious against Ren and so that advanced him into round two where he was competing against Peeta from Suzanne Collins's The Hunger Games; without a doubt, I went into the match thinking for sure that Patch was going to get pounded into the ground but by some miracle, Patch stood tall at the end! In the third round of the tournament, Patch was up against his toughest competitor yet - Ash, the Ice Prince, from Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series!

On the day of the match, I was away at school for this school event so I wasn't able to advocate as much besides tweet from my phone, which was exactly what I did! I was so busy at school that every two hours or so I was able to check my phone and I just kept seeing tweets that Ash was in the lead and then later, tweets were coming in that Patch's army was called upon and...yeah, the match was definitely going back and forth! Because of the first round and the incredibly crazy dedicated fans, we broke the voting systems and from round two and on, everyone was limited to one vote per computer - which in my opinion made the voting seem more fair and accurate. By ten o'clock that evening, I checked the post one last time and saw that Patch was behind by about 200 almost 300 votes and so by then, I had sorta, kinda given up hope that Patch was going to be able to catch up. I mean, where was I going to get that many more people to come and vote for Patch?! ;) Also, at that time the votes were: Patch was somewhere in the 1700 and Ash was in the 2000. Soon after I drifted off to sleep and I was restless (yes, super dedicated right here) because around five almost six in the morning, I woke up and checked on the voting results and saw that Patch and Ash were incredibly close! As the time came down to five minutes, all I could do was stare at the post and break the refresh button! LOL

It was SO intense, my leg was shaking so bad, I couldn't control it! My eyes were like this: O__O as the votes for both Ash and Patch increased after every refresh! They were surely chasing each other! At the very last minute, literally, Ash beat out Patch by about forty votes and...there was the end of Patch's victorious streak!
This whole tournament has been lots and lots of fun; of course it was also gruesome, stressful, tiring and exhausting but fun, without a doubt! But honestly, I'm glad that Patch got out when he did because I don't think...actually I know that Patch won't stand a chance against Jace from Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments! That will be one intense match! Also, because Ash beat Patch in the third round, he will be going up against Jace on August 8th!

Now, thinking back about the whole tournament, it basically made up the whole second half of my summer, lol! Additionally, because of this whole tournament, I have made a huge load of new friends via twitter! Other advocates from the tournament, Patch devotees and just new people in general! This has been a great experience but if this tourney returns next year, pleeeeeeease hold me back and do not let me advocate; this time around was almost going to be the death of me! No joke! It takes a lot of work and dedication to support our YA crush worthy boys, but hey, they're all winners and we all love more than just one of them!

Now after the third match where it was Ash versus Patch, all that I'm thinking about now is: If Ash and Patch ever met.....

LOL, answer that in the comments; imagine that! If Ash and Patch ever met...wow, they would be complete opposites! I think...somewhat!

Once Upon A Read-a-Thon: Update and Mini Challenges!

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

Today is the third and last day in the Once Upon a Read-a-thon! How did you do? Did you reach your goal? For me, sadly I didn't. I only finished A Touch Mortal and I know that we still have a lot of hours left to go but today is also the first day in Patch's match day against Ren...so my day is devoted to voting for him. Everything's been put on pause and pushed to the side! See? What did I say about myself and goals? I feel like once they're said out loud or made public or something, I won't go through with them. I don't know. It might just be me. Even if I my goal was just one book, I probably wouldn't have gotten to that either. I know that the read-a-thon is not to see how many books you can read or how fast you can read, but still, I feel like an epic failure for not going through with my goals. Oh well, I guess.

Read-a-thon Mini Challenge #1
This challenge is hosted by Ashley over at Books from Bleh to Basically Amazing.

The challenge: recommend two books to Ashley. The deets from Ashley herself:
The first is any book of your choice. Pick any book you want and tell me and the world why it should be read and loved.

The second is what you would pick as your favorite of the read-a-thon. You can chose to answer this question now, during the third day, or I'll give you one extra day to give that book just waiting to be picked up a chance. :)
So my first book recommendation to Ashley would most definitely have to be The Crescent by Jordan Deen. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who can read! I just can't say enough good stuff about this series! Everything about it is amazing! The plot, the love story - I mean, nothing in this world would last if there wasn't a love story, now would it? ;) The characters are amazing, the twist and the turns, every OMG to WHAT THE F**K! Haha! I still haven't written my review for this book because I still can't find the right words to do this book any justice! It's everything I could ask for in a book AND MORE; the laughter, the anger, the Ohmygawd! What the heck is she thinking? I just want to punch her one time feeling, all those times where your heart clenches - the kind where you actually have to take your wrist and pound your heart a few times to resuscitate it manually - EVERYTHING, I tell you! EVERY. THING. Just read it and then come back and tell me whether or not you liked it! Words can only do so much right? It all lies in the actions!

The Crescent (The Crescent, #1)    Half Moon (The Crescent, #2)
Books in the series, thus far.

The second book that I recommend to Ashley, would of course, have to be A Touch Mortal by Leah Clifford! Oh my goodness! I finished this one on Monday and I did not know what kind of ride I was in for! Wow, it is still all so fresh in my mind; if I close my eyes, everything flashes in front of my eyes like a movie! The breeze, the coldness, the sidewalks, the city lights, the cars honking - SIGH. Yet, behind all of this, wicked things are going on! I am astounded by the world that Leah Clifford created! It's so dangerous. Yeah, that's definitely the word I was looking for. Very dangerous and I was just like, "But...but, she's all alone; doing all this and that by herself!" BUT that's exactly why Leah Clifford's debut is so kick-ass! Her characters aren't lacking...in anything; they've all got edge and attitude! I read through ATM so fast, I still can't believe half the things that happened! Ashley, if you heart angels, bad-ass characters, a twisted yet amazing plot - YOU MUST READ A TOUCH MORTAL, like yesterday already! ;)

Books in this series, thus far.

Read-a-thon Mini Challenge #2
This challenge is hosted by Sabrina over at YA Bliss.

The challenge: list your top three love triangles. The details from the one and only, Sabrina:
In my opinion, a well done love triangle should be one where the choice is not clear, where you can't help but being torn yourself between both characters and you are uncertain as to which will end up being 'the one'. So if you were, lets say Team Mr. Obvious from book 1, and he ended up getting the girl and you were stoked about it because you hated Mr. Wrong all along, that is NOT a good love-triangle. That is merely A love-triangle. Got it?
My top three love triangles would most definitely have to be:
  1. Brandon-Lacey-Alex in Jordan Deen's The Crescent series.
  2. Ren-Calla-Shay in Andrea Cremer's Nightshade series.
  3. Jared-Melanie/Wanda-Ian from Stephenie Meyer's The Host series.

Once Upon A Read-a-Thon!

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

Woot woot! I think everyone has been waiting for this read-a-thon because I sure have! It's a lot of motivation for me to get some much needed reading in...especially during the summer time! There are lots of people on twitter that are so pumped for it and seeing all their tweets make me just as excited! For some reason though, I could never really follow through with my goals for read-a-thons and I don't know if I'll even be able to get any reading in because the first four days of this week are going to be insane!

Let me tell you what's going on. Tomorrow, on Monday, Leah Clifford will be hosting her Spoiled Rotten Blogtv Chat where everyone can chat and discuss A Touch Mortal. I haven't even finished it yet, so you already know what book is at the top of my pile for this read-a-thon.

On Tuesday it will be the second day of the read-a-thon, so by the looks of it, that will probably be my only day to get any reading in! Bright and early on Wednesday morning, it will be Patch and Ren's match day where they will battle it all out! ;) Wednesday into Thursday. SO. I need all of you to grab a button, up at the top there and represent Patch and spread the word!

Ha, and here I was thinking that I was going to get rid of this routine of pulling all-nighters. Doesn't look like that will be the case now, does it?

OK, I'm done babbling! The read-a-thon is being hosted by Angela at Reading Angel, Lori at Pure Imagination, and Candace at Candace's Book Blog! If you want to sign up and participate, click on the button up at the top and it will take you to where you need to go!

Now onto the books that I plan to read for this read-a-thon:

A Touch Mortal (Touch Mortal, #1)Eden didn't expect Az.

Not his saunter down the beach toward her. Not his unbelievable pick-up line. Not the instant, undeniable connection. And not his wings.

Yeah.

So long, happily-ever-after.

Now trapped between life and death, cursed to spread chaos with her every touch, Eden could be the key in the eternal struggle between heaven and hell. All because she gave her heart to one of the Fallen, an angel cast out of heaven.

She may lose everything she ever had. She may be betrayed by those she loves most. But Eden will not be a pawn in anyone else's game. Her heart is her own.

And that's only the beginning of the end.

Carrier of the Mark (Carrier, #1)
A move to Ireland is about to introduce Megan to her destiny, her real destiny, can she embrace it and will she survive it?

A tragedy in Megan’s past set her on a predetermined course. A chain of events has been set in motion that brings Megan to Kinsale, a small town in the south of Ireland where her destiny awaits her. Her life starts to fall into place as she makes new friends and settles into her new school. However, the reclusive and distant Adam DeRís calls to her body and soul.

She finds herself increasingly drawn to Adam and his strange family. Adam knows a secret from her past and he and his family hold the key to her future. A future that binds her to Adam and his world, a world of power, mystery and ancient orders. A world that unbeknownst to her, she very much belongs in.

EdenEve knew the stories of the Fall, of a time before she wandered into the colony of Eden, unable to recall anything but her name. She's seen the aftermath of the technology that infused human DNA with cybernetic matter, able to grow new organs and limbs, how it evolved out of control. The machine took over and the soul vanished. A world quickly losing its humanity isn't just a story to her though. At eighteen, this world is Eve's reality.

In their Fallen world, love feels like a selfish luxury, but not understanding what it is makes it difficult to choose between West, who makes her feel alive but keeps too many secrets, and Avian, who has always been there for her, but is seven years her senior.

The technology wants to spread and it won't stop until there is no new flesh to assimilate. With only two percent of the human population left, mankind is on the brink of extinction. While fighting to keep Eden alive, Eve will discover that being human is about what you will do for those you love, not what your insides may be made of. And even if it gets you killed, love is always what separates them from the Fallen
.

Those are the three books that I hope to finish. I have a huge stack of books sitting right there, glaring at me, waiting to be read, but if I set a huge goal for me, I won't get any reading done, lol! True story.

So if you are on twitter, you can find my updates and all that good stuff here: Momo's Twitter and if you tweet, use the hashtag: #OUreadathon so everyone participating can follow along!

Alrighty then, good luck to everyone and most of all, happy reading!

P.S. I still have about two hours or so before the read-a-thon officially begins for me, but Angela told me that lots of people are starting at the same time as the east coast peeps, so...feel free to do the same! And now I am out for reals!

Once Upon A Read-A-Thon!

Today, in this very second is the kick-off for the Once Upon A Read-A-Thon hosted by Lori at Pure Imagination, Candace at Candace's Book Blog, and Angela at Reading Angel!

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

This button links back to all the information you need to know about this read-a-thon!

I really only have a day to read because today is Saturday and I'm going to be busy and then that leaves Sunday and Monday...but the two books that I am planning to read NEED to be read before Monday because...well, because I'll be meeting the authors, LOL :) BOO YAH! So, that basically only leaves me with Sunday...I CAN DO THIS!

My goal, like I mentioned above is to read two books: Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and Abandon by Meg Cabot. I will be going to their book signing on Monday in San Francisco; the This Is Teen book signing so that is my motivation to get these books read before then!

Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #2)
In Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver, Grace and Sam found each other. Now, in Linger, they must fight to be together. For Grace, this means defying her parents and keeping a very dangerous secret about her own well-being. For Sam, this means grappling with his werewolf past . . . and figuring out a way to survive into the future. Add into the mix a new wolf named Cole, whose own past has the potential to destroy the whole pack. And Isabelle, who already lost her brother to the wolves . . . and is nonetheless drawn to Cole.

At turns harrowing and euphoric, Linger is a spellbinding love story that explores both sides of love -- the light and the dark, the warm and the cold -- in a way you will never forget.

Abandon (Abandon Trilogy #1)
New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld.

Good luck to everyone and happy reading!

Hello all my fellow bookworms! I am truly and deeply sorry for having this post up so late in the month. Have I mentioned that this is my first year of blogging and my first time ever hosting a challenge? What was I thinking? LOL ;)

Due to certain circumstancesm Anaiz, my co-host, had to drop out of this challenge as my co-host. So now it is just me hosting this challenge. I've been contemplating how I am going to deal with the giveaways and all that awesomeness for you guys who are participating in this challenge and I've come to the conclusion that I am still going to stick with the monthly giveaways.

I also have something planned for the end of the year/end of the challenge. A mega giveaway....so you know, get to reading! ;)

Descent of the Angels Reading Challenge

So, how much do you love angels? *raises hands* I DO! I DO! I DO! I mean, who doesn't?! I've been all over Goodreads.com over these past couple of months that I've been blogging and I've discovered that there are quite a few coming out in 2011! So, you know what that calls for - A READING CHALLENGE! I am hosting this reading challenge called Descent of the Angels in honor of all these incredible novels!

The Challenge:
  •  To read twelve books that have at least one angel as a main character or have angels as the main focal point of the story.
Guidelines:
  • The books could be old releases or new releases!
  • They could also be cross-over reads (angel books that are being read for other challenges) and/or re-reads!
  • Sequels, prequels, etc. all count!
  • Adult books may count - as long as they have one angel as a main charater or have angels as the main focal point of the story!
  • Only books read in 2011 will count towards the challenge!
  • The challenge will run from January 1st to December 31st of 2011!
On the 1st of each month, I will make a post for the challenge with a Mr. Linky for those of you who want to post and share your review. You do not have to have a blog to participate; you can post your reviews on Goodreads, LibraryThing, Amazon, and/or B&N.

There will be a giveaway every month for those who post a review! The prizes will include books and swag; there will be substitute prizes for International participants.
*If any authors would like to donate items for the monthly prizes, please contact me!

To sign up:  Use the Linky below and link back to your blog or your challenge post. If you don't have a blog, list the books you would like to read or are planning to read in the comments section! You could sign up anytime throughout the year!

Any questions or comments, email me! Before you leave, don't forget to grab a button on my Descent of the Angels challenge page! Happy reading everyone!

*Update [02-08-11]: My Mister Linky subscription expired because now you have to pay for it, so here's a new linky. For those of you that have already signed up, if it's not too much trouble would you please link to your blog or challenge post again? Thank you so much! And I apologize because this is the second time that you guys have to do this, but I just want to keep track of everyone that signed up! New partcipants, welcome!*

*NOTE: I am using a new linky so if your challenge post URL is more than 100 characters, please leave the direct link to your challenge post in the comments and I'll find a way to link it! I apologize for the inconvenience!
