Riptides Blog Tour: Review + Excerpt

Welcome to my stop on the Riptides Blog Tour hosted by InkSlinger PR. I'm thrilled to be a part of this tour because I am a huge fan and I absolutely h e a r t this series to outer space and back! Campbell and Reinhardt are an amazing duo and their writing chemistry always leaves me in awe. So, any chance I get to shout at the top of my lungs how awesome Campbell, Reinhardt, and the Lengths series are, I'm taking it! ;p

For today's stop, I've got an awesome excerpt from Riptides as well as my thoughts and feels to share with all of you, so do not go anywhere because there's a lot of epic going on, for sure! Without anymore delay...

About the book:

Title: Riptides: A Lengths Novella (Lengths, #4.5)
Authors: Steph Campbell & Liz Reinhardt
Publisher: Self
Release date: October 13, 2013

Enzo Rodriguez doesn't take much seriously--unless it involves waves, boards, or good beer.

When too-hot-to-handle Jessica Mills strolls into his life, Enzo is willing to forego all of those things for every second he can spend with her.

But Jessica has a huge secret--and when it’s revealed, it not only crushes Enzo, but has the last person he wants to ask a favor of--his brother-in-law Adam--bailing him out of jail.

Enzo is convinced that the only way to mend his bruised ego and heart, is to pack his bags and leave the turbulent waters of Silver Strand...for good.

My review:

To be honest, for the longest time, the Lengths series wasn’t one that sat very high up on my favorites list, not that I’m saying it was or is bad, no, no, no, never! It’s just that it was another series that I easily breezed through so I didn’t give it much thought. But after the third and fourth book released, I realized how wrong I was. It slowly occurred to me that this series was so much more. Every time the next book in the series released, I noticed that I found myself very eager and excited to get on Amazon so I could one-click. And that’s a big deal, especially because there are so many books in the series; it means that this series has been able to keep me coming back, hungrier each time!

Riptides was a whirlwind of surprises! I went into Enzo’s story fully aware of its novella status so I’m not quite sure why, especially when I look back, why I was so shocked—there were actually a few signs that I noticed but didn’t pay much attention to until… the end had already hit me in the face. Riptides is told only from Enzo’s point of view (and that should have been slight warning bells) which left me hanging a bit because I wanted to be in Jessica’s head the other half of the time. All the books in the Lengths series are written with dual points of view so I was used to being aware of everything that occurred on both sides. Without Jessica’s perspective, I felt a little lost and a little blind and I almost couldn’t connect with her. Of course, after finishing the book, a lot of things that didn’t click, clicked.

Excerpt from Riptides:

“Times like these must make you happy you’re single,” Lydia observes.

“Who says I am?” I take another pull of the warmed dredges of my beer and watch Lydia grab two fresh cold ones. She hands one to me.

“Spill?” She cracks hers open and gulps it down. It makes me laugh, since she’s usually sipping all dainty on some snooty glass of wine that costs what I make in a month.

“You guys will meet her soon,” I promise, liking that I have a little bit of a mystery tucked away for all of them.

“Ugh. Sunday dinner? Enzo, remember what happened when Cohen brought Maren to Sunday dinner for introductions? Nana kept pinching her and telling her what nice birthing hips she had.”

We both chuckle at the memory. “Nah. Not Sunday dinner. The wedding.”

Lydia’s eyebrows crash down over her eyes. “The wedding? You’re going to introduce us all to your new girl at the wedding? You realize that this craziness is only going to get more intense the closer we get to the big day. You sure your girl can handle it?”

“Oh, I’m sure.” I can’t help the stupid grin that spreads over my whole face. “This girl——she isn’t like anyone I’ve ever been with before. There’s something about her that…you’ll see. You’ll like her.”

Lydia’s purposefully bland face lets me know that she doubts it. “Really? You thought I’d like the exotic dancer too.”

About the authors:

Liz Reinhardt was born and raised in the idyllic beauty of northwest NJ. A move to the subtropics of coastal Georgia with her daughter and husband left her with a newly realized taste for the beach and a bloated sunscreen budget. Right alongside these new loves is her old, steadfast affection and longing for bagels and the fast-talking foul mouths of her youth.

She loves Raisinettes, even if they aren't really candy, the Oxford comma, movies that are hilarious or feature zombies, any and all books, but especially romance (the smarter and hotter, the better), the sound of her daughter's incessantly wise and entertaining chatter, and watching her husband work on cars in the driveway.

She is the author of the Brenna Blixen series (Double Clutch, Junk Miles, Slow Twitch), the Youngblood series (Fall Guy, Perfectly Unmatched), and co-writes with the awesome Steph Campbell in the Lengths series (Lengths, Depths, Limits, Ties, Riptides).
